Royals Sign Miguel Batista?

I'm hearing 3 years, $24 million. Have we triumphed over those bitter rivals to the East in our glorious pursuit?

Confirmed? Any links?

Update [2006-12-5 18:49:9 by royalsreview]:
3/24 is the supposed offer, nothing else is confirmed. Assumption is Cards won't match.

Meanwhile, according to rumor, the Mets are interested in Burgos.

I really have no idea
Years and Money numbers don't really mean much right now, since there's no baseline. A three-year contract isn't a huge milestone, and could be flipped fairly easily, I guess. I guess my initial question is just "why"?

Hopefully they don't make him the scarlet-fringed "closer".

I am down with his ambitions towards poetry, maybe that will be my in regarding an interview.

Burgos for Bannister looks intriguing
Bannister in minors posted 1.2 whip, 7.7 K/9, 3.2 ERA as a starter, but he'll be 26 when season starts, spent 3 years in college.  Anyone know anything about him?

8M per for Batista looks very high for a league avg guy who'll be 36, but I guess that's the market.  I'd like to see us pass and give Gobble another shot, keep the money to sign a higher profile guy next year.

A three year contract for a 36 yr old pitcher...
They didn't learn anything from Reggie's contract did they.   At least this should give Runny some competition for his spot.  We got our innings eater.

If we could get Bannister then Greinke would start in Omaha and Runny could be trade bait or dropped if he shows up fat like last year. Then in July we could bring up Greinke and trade Bautista for more young pitching prospects or a shortstop.

I wouldn't miss Burgoes.  He has a big upside but how long do you have to wait until it shows up.  At 26, Bannister has his good years ahead of him.  He would fit right in if and when Hochevar and or Lumsden/Buckner get here.  Or even if they don't....

gagnehof reports Burgos deal is done!
I agree, I won't miss Burgos hanging that splitter or constantly throwing it in the dirt past Buck.  He hasn't been able to add a third pitch, and we need depth in starters so we can get rid of the dead weight like Runny.
