Around SBN: More Televised Winter Baseball, Please

Hi all

Hello everyone. after reading this blog pretty regularly for the last couple months, i thought it was time for me to start joining in on some discussions with all the recent happenings.
About me:
21 year old student who lives in London, England, grew up in the KC area. Royals broadcasts don't make it here to often. I have been following royals minor league prospects fairly heavily since the lubanski draft, getting the BA.com minor league stats update email everyday for 4 years now. I tend to follow the tools school of scouting over the stats one. Angel Berroa is still my favorite player. yes, i have seen him play, no, i won't change my mind, im sure i will defend him on more than a few posts in the near future. I like glass as an owner. if i can think of any other reasons for you to hate me right off the bat, ill try to add them later.

Are you sure you aren't from Lamar Mo?
I recall this horrific mailbag entry from a month or so ago.

Angel Berroa is my favorite player, so I was wondering if you think he will play a lot this year.

A way south of KC
Off of US-71.  Closer to Joplin than KC, if I remember correctly.  Also noted for being the birthplace of Harry Truman (you can still go see the childhood home, if that kind of thing interests you).

Welcome
I too just started this week.  I moved from KC to Western Kansas and there's more Rockies fans than Royals fans (and football fans than baseball fans).  It's fun to have an outlet!  Thanks!

If so, Welcome back to the midwest.  Motley bunch?????  At least you didn't say geezerly.

Welcome Zep. and LordB.... sorry Zep. we really disagree on Bullorra... really.   But, that is what makes this "little online pub" of ours interesting.

Only 70 days until pitchers and catchers report....

Berroa love?
We're here to help.  Remember, you're good enough, you're smart enough, and, doggone it, people like you.

Lets trade Berroa to the Jays
for another pitcher, they need help at SS and this hopefully will calm down that little ball of fire JP.

loyal2
is starting her trek home around the 20th - after exams are over.

Berroa?
Perhaps in a previous life Berroa was a good cricket player or something?

There has to be a reason for a rational 21 year old student in England to like him, right?

by loyal2s dad on Dec 8, 2006 11:17 AM EST reply actions

berroa and cricket
Berroa would be a cricket god. you can swing and miss as much as you like as long as the ball doesn't hit the wicket. He would be good for a century every match. he might let his mind wander a bit too much in the field. even the best players have lapses in concentration in 5 day test matches.

Dang, I fell like such a loser for actually understanding cricket now... :(

long drives home
I went to college really far fro mhome... and i always loved doing the long drives to and from at the holidays

it was always exciting, but also kinda scary, especially when a snowstorm would blast missouri or arkansas or OK and i'd get stuck somewhere

by Freneau on Dec 8, 2006 11:18 AM EST reply actions

I'm kinda holding my breath on loyal2's drive
her car is getting kinda old, and the drive home from Utah in December is fraught with blizzard potential.

She is going to monitor the weather closely and decide whether to take the northern route thru Montana and Nebraska, or go the long way by dropping down south.

God, I hope that car is good for one more long trip!

by loyal2s dad on Dec 8, 2006 11:42 AM EST reply actions

I know I know
one of the scariest nights of my life was driving through Utah on the way to Cali... in that no-civilization part, and it was snowing and dark... basically, i could have died very easily if something had gone wrong

by Freneau on Dec 8, 2006 12:50 PM EST up reply actions

At least I80 is highly traveled and
well monitored.  But, there are a lot of empty spaces in Wyo. and Nebraska.  I have traveled that route numerous times from Iowa to Cal. and never have lost the fear of getting stranded 50 miles from nowhere in Wyo or western Neb.

I will wish her good luck and hope that she makes it home safe and sound before Christmas.   I bet you are happy that she decided to transfer back home.

no worries
I have been on many of long road trips in my old cutlass. Just make sure she isn't afraid to stop if it is dangerous, she is tired, etc. If she has a cell, make sure she she calls you a couple times just for updates on weather and such. It will make you feel a lot better. I always broke up an Atlanta to KC drive with a stop in StL to see friends. keeps the mind fresh.

We are flying her older brother out there
to help her drive home. That makes it a little less worrisome...

B-error-a
Only someone living in England could admire someone who swings an oversized piece of wood consistently at a ball bouncing in the dirt.  Also, I have seen B-error-a let some go "through the wickets".  Welcome aboard, but please do not expect much love for your man, Angel on this site.
