lineup age

A probable lineup vs. right handed pitchers:

Dejesus - 26
Grudzielanek - 36
Teahen - 24
Brown - 31
Costa - 24
Shealy - 27
Buck - 26
Gathright - 25
Blanco - 22

That is an average age of 26.7. That is quite a bit better than the infamous lineups of earlier in the season with Sanders, Stairs, and Bako.

its a good start
hopefully we'll be seeing less and less of emil brown as time passes...

we need to get the pitching ready, because the Royals are going to have a good young lineup sooner rather than later... i actually feel good about this team thinking about Teahen, Gordon, Shealy, etc.

Since Grudz does not play like a 36
year old.  I don't think his age is a negative.  Hopefully, Costa will just keep the position warm until Butler and or Maier get to the bigs in 2008 or 2009.

I agree we have got to get our pitching in order and not just in the big leagues.  When you have injuries you are supposed to have guys in AAA that can come up and hold their own.  At the first of the year...we had nothing in Omaha for starters.  Just a bunch of retreads and guys at the end of their careers.  We need five good starters in both places and talent at every level to move up when needed.  That was Baird's biggest problem... he ignored Omaha and it hurt us this year.

That is why I like Moore's stockpiling of arms.  They all may not be top five big league starters but if we need to call them up they could come up and give us a decent five or six innings of work.

If Bell doesn't screw it up... we could be good very soon.

better yet
he can flip those arms for useful veterans when we might need them in 2008.

we still have soooo much work to do building this franchise, especially considering the strength of the Tigers, Sox and Tribe, who are all still waaaay ahead of us in terms of organizational talent

Yes, they are...
but at least Moore has an idea of where he wants us to go.  It may or may not work...but, it is better than crabbing at straws.  Like the past couple of drafts have been.

I would like them eventually to be like the Steelers.  Just going about the business of winning.  No, flashy stars...just players who want to be here and win.
