Trey Hillman overload

I don't know how useful some of this information will be for some of you, but I had it so I thought I'd post it for some of you to enjoy (it's a long off season!).

I enjoyed listening to the post-presser interview with Kietz on 810 WHB and I was just about to upload it (recorded it so I could listen after work)when I found it linked on WHB's site... so here is the Hillman post-presser interview: Link

Unfortunately, I did not get audio of NYRoyal's call to Kietz or I would have posted it.

For those that missed the press conference entirely, here is the Royals site video: Link

I found both interesting and ultimately encouraging... the "stats" comments were great.

And finally OT: Can I suggest a new feature on the site, how 'bout a NYRoyal / Billex Gordler point/counterpoint every week on a new topic? I do enjoy the banter, it's sort of like PTI for RR. It could only get better if jmoney42 was back in the fray. Wait a sec, maybe not.

I am a walking, talking counterpoint
Actually my little question to Kietzman wasn't that interesting.  But it did possibly encourage him to put the offensive philosophy question to Hillman.  Hillman's answer was interesting and gave me more than a little cause for concern.  I am a little worried that he's going to sacrifice too much.  I am very worried that he's going to attempt too many stolen bases.  His excitement about getting this team to make "aggressive mistakes" on the basepaths is very distressing.  You get mileage out of stolen bases by doing it selectively so you can maintain a high percentage, not by piling on the stolen base attempts.
I probably disagree with you.

It Sound Like
Personnel decisions will dictate his managerial style. He could stand around waiting for HR's, and it may work better next year, but the '07 Royals didn't justify that approach, did they? From what I've read, he wants big innings, but you need big bats to make that work. Bring on the big bats!
Being a fan is irrational, but what is the alternative?

On the nose...
The Royals stood around a lot last year waiting for the "big" inning only to find the team going 0-? with nothing except another loss to show for it.  If Hillman gets the team to be more selective at bat then when and if they do get on base at least think about advancing on the basepaths.  We will be far better off than we were last year.

Hillfire hasn't even manager is first game and already we have dismissed his game decisions.

Way, way too much pontification from the psuedo experts...

All I know...
is that I neither want our team to clog the basepaths with runners, nor end rallies by hitting homeruns.

The only way to assure that, I think, is to be aggressive in our attempts to hit weak dribblers to shortstop and to redouble our efforts in striking out and hitting pop-ups.

You speak the truth
What light hitting seasoned veterans can we pick up to assemble such a team? I am not convinced our young hitters like Justin Huber, Billy Butler and Alex Gordon understand "how to win."

Bunt specialists
Let's trade Alex Gordon for Willy Taveras.  Then we can have an outfield of Taveras, Gathright and DeJesus.  Bunts baby, all the time.  Bunts for hits, sacrifice bunts, bunt-and-run.  Dead ball era fever....catch it!
I probably disagree with you.

Too young
Tavares is young and prone to mistakes. I was thinking more along the lines of Tom Goodwin.

Bring Gary Thurman out of retirement!
"I'm tired of all these stupid a$$ questions every day. Why the f**k would I hit Brett for Miller?" The rest is history.

Kenny Lofton
is much more grittily aged, but he's only batting .250 in his World Series appearances, clear evidence that he just doesn't know how to win.

But Taveras has the postseason experience
This is his second WS.  He obviously knows how to win.

Only 118 days left until pitchers and catchers
REPORT to Spring Training.  I have a feeling that you won't see the number of old vets there as we had last year.   JMGF....

Nope..
I will be there for a week.   How about you?  Or, can't you get that far away from the 50 gallon Metamucil drum?

It depends on the sale of the business...
If it sells before the first of the year then Yee haw, I am going.   If not, it is doubtful....

If I go it would be great to have a Royals Review banner there for a little added publicity.  But, I would be sporting my RR's tshirt (cleaned and pressed of course.)

I don't know
I understand the market for collectible salt and pepper shakers is pretty slow in western Iowa right now.  good luck.

I'll be there...
If we can find a way to run a booth, I'd definitely volunteer for a long shift (just so long as I get to hi to Hillman-san).

Let me know if it's something that we want to do.
