Royals out of Cordero race

Stay connected for news and updates

Francisco Coredero goes to the Reds for four years at $46 million.

That's more than we paid annually for Gil Meche, for a guy who will pitch one-sixth the innings, and is not lights-out like Mariano Rivera or Trevor Hoffman. It would have been nice to have him, but that price is crazy.

Kudos to Dayton for grabbing Gil while the price was less insane than it's about to become. We might not get a closer who will enable us to move Soria to the rotation, but at least Soria's a good closer.

Will this raise the price on David Riske?
