Baseball America produced a list of all minor league free agents today. A player becomes a minor league free agent after they spend six years in the minors and are not on the 40-man roster, or if they are released. These players can sign with any team without being added to the 40-man roster. Basically they cost about $60-75K per year and will fill out AAA rosters. Here is a link to the full list.
And here are the 22 players in the Royals organization who have been declared free agents:
Righthanders: Zach Day, Roberto Giron, Ben Hendrickson, David Humen, Arthur Santos, Jim Wladyka
Lefthanders: Juan Cedeno, Michael Connolly
First baseman: Jeff Eure
Second baseman: Richard Lewis
Third basemen: Luis Castillo, Jeff Nettles
Shortstops: Andres Blanco, Jose Santos, Derek Wathan
Outfielders: Jeremy Cleveland, Adam Greenberg, Onil Joseph, Rubi Koko, Alexis Marte, Bill McCarthy, Jorge Padilla
These players can resign with the Royals or move on to a new club. It is their choice at this point. I would like to see Day, Giron, Cedeno, Greenberg, Blanco and Padilla resigned certainly. If for no other reason these men provide good organizational depth.
I went through the list quickly and noticed a few other names which I think might be worth pursuing.
D.J. Carrasco (One of the best pitchers on the Royals 2005 team)
Mike Burns (Hard throwing relief pitcher. Similar to Joe Nelson)
Elizardo Ramirez (The Lizard has pitched effectively as a starter for the Reds)
William Bergolla (A solid fielding 2B with a somewhat useful bat)
Chad Mottola (Once a highly regarded prospect. Power hitting OF)
Brandon Claussen (before injury a quality MLB starter)
Vic Darensbourg (Former MLB reliever. Still doing well in the minors.)
Shawn Estes (Used to be an elite SP. Is he still trying to come back?)
