Proposed Rule Change For Fantasy League

Sorry for the double-post, but it appears the diary in which this was originally posted has been bumped from the main page

I'd like to propose that we use OBP and SLG in lieu of batting average for the league. I'm told that in order to get this change through, we need to show support for the idea here.

If you've ever played in a fantasy baseball league, you may know how frustrating it can be if your best player ends up walking a whole bunch and you're essentially getting penalized for it.  Instead, it seems you should be rewarded if your player demonstrates a keen batting eye and good  plate discipline.  Including OBP in the league scoring is a good way to ensure that this happens.

Under the current rules, a single is as valuable as a triple, which again can be somewhat distressing.   Theoretically, it can mean a guy with an empty average like Joey Gathright can be almost as valuable or even possibly more valuable than a guy like David DeJesus who hits a load of doubles, but not necessarily a bunch of homeruns.  Adding SLG will mean that anytime your player hits a double or triple, you are rewarded.

Perhaps most importantly, I've found that leagues that use these two categories instead of average are ultimately a whole lot more fun.  If you've never used them before in a fantasy league, it may be a little weird to think about initially, but I believe you'll find that it adds a lot more depth and enjoyment to the game.

League members, please let us know what you think.
