Near the middle of spring training, Alex Gordon hurts his shoulder and misses a few games. He is checked out, is eventually cleared and returns to the lineup. After a couple weeks or so, it is finally acknowledged that he will break with the big club.
Almost from that point on, starting with the two exhibition games in Houston, he sputters. He has made a number of errors mostly of the throwing variety. At the plate, he has gone from Minor League Player of the Year to a batter who can't catch up with almost any fastball.
So, the question has to be asked:
Is he playing hurt? Did he come back from the injured shoulder to ensure he would make the team? Is it still bothering him? Will we wake up in a week or two-like Runelvys' Elbow or Teahen's shoulder--and discover he has been trying to play through it this whole time?
