Gilly Gilly

Hello all, I live in St. Joe, MO, am new to this site and am looking forward to the day the Boys in Blue can actually compete as a professional baseball club (I was thinking 2008 but pushed it to 2009 after this start).
I can't stop wondering why Billy Butler was called up but not in the lineup everyday.  We all knew his defense sucks but it's not getting worked on the bench.
And I can't believe that Gil could be the All-Star game starter if he continues pitching like he has all season.  Watching him bare down in tough situations and leaving runners stranded is something I'm not used to!  Let's hope he keeps it up and gets his pitch count down a little so he can go 8 innings or even get some complete games down the road.

Welcome aboard
St. Joes has an Northern League team in it, doesn't it?

We all are wondering why Butler sits so much.  Just one of those special pondering points that makes being a Royals fan so much fun.

It will be nice to send someone to the All-Star game this year who actually deserves to be there.  The owner of this site got a lot of milage out of Redman being selected last year.  Some pretty funny stuff.

i'm from right outside Joetown
It's nice to have another NW Missouri resident. Meche has been awesome! I expected him to be good, but I didn't expect him to be this good. Buck and Teahen have continued their progression, but I was impressed by Billy Butler after the callup the most. Not playing him is beyond maddening. Buddy has to go soon so that he can't hurt our young talent anymore. JQ, our team (the Blacksnakes) are an American Association team. They started the year off against the T-Bones in an exhibition. One of the teams in our division (Lincoln or Sioux City) has Dan Reichert pitching for them and Max Scherzer pitches for the Fort Worth team.

It would be nice if the Northern League
and the American Association played each other.  Both leagues are a bit on the small size, and KC is a bit isolated from the other teams.  St. Joes and KC are natural rivals.  I'd love it if a team moved into Topeka.

Isn't it crazy that there is not even a minor league team in Topeka?

That is kinda crazy
The Blacksnakes are drawing fairly well up here to a lot of people's surprise. We have had Mickey Mantle, Ted Wiliams, Willie Mays and many other stars play here at Phil Welch Stadium in the past. St. Joe is a baseball town. Brandon Duckworth pitched for the team we had here before the Blacksnakes. It was a college kids summer league. It's hard to believe that Topeka doesn't even have an independent league team. Even a summer wood bat league for college kids would be better than nothing.

A couple of years ago
either the Northern League or the American Association was looking to expand in Kansas.  They focused on Manhattan, not Topeka.  Crazy.  Is there just no decent part in Topeka now?

I'd love it if a short season Rookie or an Independent team moved into Topeka.  After the KU season wraps up at the end of May I have no way to see a game short of driving to the K and paying ~$30-40.  Maybe I should start going to more T-Bonz games.  That would save money and they are only a 30 minute drive for me.

no to hijack your comment
but am i the only southwester?  or 'sowestr' or whatever a nautical character would say...  generally, am i the only southwest missourian/northwest arkansan on board?
The first thing I know about someone in a KC hat is that they're loyal.

If you were a hotdog would you eat yourself? I know I would!

St. Joe! Springfield!
Grew up in St. Joe, went to college in Springfield, so both are near and dear to my heart.  Currently in Jeff City (so devoted to Cardinaldom that it makes Springfield look Royal blue).  Refuse to move any closer to St. Louis on principle.

awesome
I'm a '99 graduate of Lafayette and I'm currently a non-trad at Mo West. Do you get back here much?

Haven't been back
In like 3 years.  My family lives in KC now, and we don't even get there that often.  Hoping to get up there sometime this summer.

You may not even recognize us
There's been a lot of changes up here. They've put in a lot of new shopping and resturants. You should stop by Phil Welch for a Blacksnakes game. That park is so great to watch a game because of it's history. It's nice to have a couple Joetown natives here with me.
