Billy Huber

I mean Justin Butler... I mean...

This situation makes me question whether Dayton Moore is the GM we thought he could be.

Why he hasn't fired Bell for this is absolutely beyond me. Between this and moving Gordon to 1st base, I have about lost all faith that the Royals will ever be able to be an organization in the same vein as Minnesota.

You would think
the GM and the manager would be on the same page for issues of this maganitude.

Here's a scary thought - what if Moore doesn't mind what Bell is doing to Butler?

My hope is that they have already decided to send him back down, and that they know Shealy will be activated in less than a week, and Moore has decided it's not worth adding somebody additional to the 40 man roster just to get thru 5 days or so.

Let's hope that's the explanation. Anything else is insanity. If it were me, if Bell has decided on this level of playing time, as GM I would usurp him by just sending Butler down and telling the idiot to "just play with 24 guys, if that's what you're going to do."

I was mad too
At the 1B thing, but there really aren't any better options. Huber is on the DL, Butler has never played 1B there, so you're stuck with Sweeney and Gordon. Gordon has played 1B before for Team USA and I believe a little at Nebraska, so its probably the best decision.

Gordon to 1st is not the problem
but I'm frustrated that yet another prospect is called up and sits on the bench. Love Butler, but if you think he is not ready defensively, that's fine - just send him back down NOW, even if you play with one man short on the big league roster, because I don't want to risk impeding his development with the bat. He is 21, he HAS to be playing every day somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of what we may all think of Huber's prospect status, this remains true:

Huber was RAKING when called up last year, Bell played him in something like 3 games out of 15 days, and when he returned to the minors, somehow he was SLUMPING!

If this happens to Butler, well, let's just call it what it is - a travesty and a disgrace to player development principals.

I think Gordon
to 1st is a problem. He is having a rough enough time as it is, why does he need the added stress of receiving throws which leads to the embarrassing type of error like last night? I'd rather put German at 1st, at least if he makes some bad plays we know it isn't likely to affect his psyche.

Or, why not make some trades so we have
room on the 40 man roster to add some REAL 1B.  Bring up Brazell until Huber/Shealy are off the DL.  Get rid of the two headed monster known as Costa/Brown and put Butts in LF permanently.  Bring up Gator, who by the way can play all the OF positions.

The real shocker is that we haven't seen the Bull yet.  With the love that Buddo gives him...I thought he would be pinchhitting in last nights game.

Come GMDM FIRE BELL.....13-27 just isn't cutting it anymore.

I agree Gordon to 1st is a problem...
The way Buddy talks about how sensitive the psyche of these younger players is, you would think he wouldn't mess with Gordon's head by moving him to another position.  Then again though I heard a quote from Buddy on the radio last week that 1st was a tougher position to play than 3rd!  So based on that comment who know what he is thinking.

Gordon to first is idiotic
The fact is that 1st is the one area where the Royals have a lot of players vying for playing time already. Part of what makes Gordon potentially valuable is that his bat (if it comes around) should be very good for a 3B. The difference between impressive production from third and impressive production from first is a tangible one; first basemen need to be mashers to be big plusses. Given that the Royals have some guys (Shealy, Butler, Huber) that might grow up to be a plus at first, and no other organizational depth at third, giving Gordon time at third is a mind-boggling decision.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

To clarify
I meant Gordon playing first base, occasionally, should not be a problem. Listening to the last two games (and the error aside), the announcers made it sound like he looked very comfortable playing there.

Of course he should play 3B ideally, because of the added value his bat would provide there.

This is a perfect example
of the problem with the Royals.  Aside from the mistimed injuries to Huber, Shealy and Gload, the Royals don't have any sort of direction or plan.  Where is Butler going to play?  Make him an OF, no wait put him at 1B (where he has never played in professional baseball).  Alex Gordon, minor league POY, playing a position that is difficult to find value.  Granted he has played 1B before but why move him to 1st instead of calling up a 1B.  Perhaps Gordon could play an inning or two at SS - nope,we did that already once this year.

If Buddy Bell is a competent manager, how do the Royals get in so many screwed up situations?  Emil Brown being a defensive replacement?  TPJ playing every inning this season without no pinch hitters for him?  Having Jason LaRue play 3B as a sub instead of Teahen?  Having Butler sit for several games in a row when his bat is the ticket and the Royals are struggling to score runs.

The level of incompetence is beyond belief.  KC just doesn't seem to have a clue most of the time.  Guess that may be one reason why we are contending for worst franchise in baseball again when the consensus this winter was the talent was much better than in previous years.  If the talent is better, how come the results are so mind numbingly the same?

ok since we are venting
and I already vented about the billy huber situation.  How about bunting with Teahen last night so they could walk Sweeney to get to Emil Brown.  Brown ended up getting a hit but that is just plain dumb and very short-sighted for a Major league manager.  Oh yea why was Emil even playing?  I know he is such a spark the way he legs doubles into outs and what not.   SAD

KC Star reports
Billy will be moving to 1B when he reports to Omaha. That gives us Ross Gload, Ryan Shealy, Justin Huber and Billy Butler as guys who all do the same thing -play 1B and play a bit of OF, and Butler and Huber should probably be DHing.

Great plan Dayton!
