more Billy Huber
I caught the tail end of Soren Petro's interview with Dayton Moore today in which he apparently asked him about the handling of Butler. Did anyone hear what he said? After the interview was over Petro mentioned something about injury/DL status/roster-something-or-other but I couldn't tell what it all meant. If anyone did hear it, can you tell us what was said?
I frankly can't believe the organization is going to move him to 1B now. First of all, and this has been said but bears repeating, if whoever is in charge of making these decisions thought Butler was ready to play LF in the bigs then either A) that person should be fired for allowing Butler to come up here and embarrass himself or B) that person was right and Butler just needed some time to adjust to the big league game. If the answer is A) then so be it, someone screwed up and everyone needs to move on. However, if the answer is B) then the problems with the Royals as an organization are only going to continue. Can they not see what is right in front of them? This situation with Butler is looking more like Justin Huber's every single day. I almost want to lay money down on one of Buddy Bell's batless sons getting called to Omaha next week to play first base, and Butler getting once again moved back to the OF.
I hope this is all just a lot of frustration over what will turn out to be nothing, but I can't say I am optimistic that it will turn out that way.

I heard some of it
He went on to say that at bats in the big league now, regardless of whether Butler would stick or not, are good for his development.
He also said that it was his decision to sit Butler (for the last two days, anyway), because the decision to send him down was already made, and if he were to get hurt, he couldn't be sent down, and the Royals have a roster crunch on the 40 man (60 day DL is maxed out). I didn't catch all of his explanation, but I felt much better that at least some logic was being applied this week (although some may argue it was flawed logic!).

that makes sense
No Open Game Thread today?
What message did his call-up send him?
Worst....excuse....ever.....
Wondering why the Royals didn't play outfielder Billy Butler in recent days before optioning him to Class AAA Omaha before Wednesday's game?
Their reasoning amounted to a precaution against financial risk.
When it became necessary to put first baseman Ross Gload on the disabled list because of a torn right quadriceps, that virtually ensured Ryan Shealy would be activated as soon as possible from the disabled list instead of spending an extended rehab tour at Omaha.
Since Shealy wasn't eligible to return until Wednesday, the Royals chose to replace Gload immediately by recalling Angel Berroa. That filled the roster need for another infielder but meant an outfielder was the logical casualty when Shealy returned.
Club officials soon determined that outfielder would be Butler. That decision made, the Royals opted not to play Butler, unless absolutely necessary, until the move could be executed.
Their reasoning: Any injury that forced Butler to the disabled list would enable him to accrue major-league service time -- plus major-league salary. The Royals chose not to take the risk.
