Soria, the new Two-Face

No, Soria will not play the DA-turned villain with half of his face scared from acid, but instead this is about his splits. Soria's numbers are pretty decent, but not dominating. Why? He flat out stinks against righties while dominating lefties. Why? I don't know, I'm not a pitching coach. Let's look at the stats.

Vs. Left: 9.1 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 10 K, 0.68 WHIP, .138 average

Vs. Right: 10.0 IP, 13 H, 7 BB, 12 K, 2.00 WHIP, .310 BAA

Very strange. I hope someone has the answers. Maybe you, my beloved L2TR? BTW, i think mobiledawg is the coolest poster on RC.

I think...
this one might just be the wonders of a small sample size.  He still might suck completely against everyone or he still might be Ricky Vaughan with glasses.

Meanwhile, in New York
The man he replaced, the mercurial Burgos, boasts similiar splits, albeit in reverse. If only if he were still around for a platoon closing situation*:

vs Left-handed Batters: 6.75 ERA, .324 AVG
Vs Right-handed Batters: 1.59 ERA, .086 AVG

*Not really -- I like what I've seen of Bannister.

if this persists,
we may have a problem

if these are numbers that continue
maybe we can platoon him with Gobble to get out lefties once Dotel gets back?

::listens to crickets chirping::

or, you know, we can leave him in a set up....

unfortunately
Gobble is the same against righties and lefties. He's been decent, but not great. Our best pitcher against righties is Ducksworth who has is equally bad against lefties. Maybe a Soria/Ducksworth combo could be the most effective until Dotel comes back on Tuesday.

Riske
David Riske is the same way.  He is dominant against lefties so far but not as good with righties.

Acutally
He's due back this tuesday against Cleveland.

Soria is looking a little tired and burnt...
Even if Buddo does rotation at closer it should give Soria some rest.  Good to see the Big D. back.

Hmm...looks kind of
small-samply. However, perhaps he's mixing off-speed stuff better versus those weirdo lefties or something. Either way, I'd expect things to start evening out a bit.
