I was just perusing Baseball America to see when Nunez is due to pitch next - and I noticed he is now on the AAA roster in Omaha. He last pitched in Wichita on the 20th; Wichita (oddly) has two off days in a row tonight and tomorrow. To me, this means one of the following applies:
- Nunez was promoted due to his performance (0.87 ERA in 20 innings), regardless of the failed Bradley trade
- The Bradley trade is still in play, potentially, and KC wanted to showcase him in AAA, where he will pitch Tuesday, according to the O-Royals website.
This is very interesting to follow. I am fascinated that they have converted him to a starter, and anxious to see how that pans out. Remember, Nunez is still only 23, and his stuff, like most prospects, is good enough to succeed. Will the conversion enable him to blossom into something better than we previous thought? Will we look back at the failed Bradley trade one day and breath a huge sigh of relief? The Leo Nunez story is still mostly untold; to me, that has always been one of the more intriguing aspects of following one team very closely...
