Royal Nicknames

Instead of being stuck with Buddy's player nicknames that end in a "y" or "er", I challenge you all to come up with better more acceptable nicknames.
No more Scotty Elarton or John Bucker!  That's Long Ball Elarton and Juan Buck or Buck's Flowing Hair in my mind.  The nickname I want to start is Billy Butler aka The Fat Ass-assin!
I may only be dreaming about the need for real nicknames so let me know what you all think.

Dotel

I happen to like
Billy "Boom Boom" Butler, but that's just me. I also have been throwing around Joakim "the dream" Soria. Loyal2's Jalapena was genius.

Boom Boom
is much better than any nickname for him which includes "butt" or "ass".

True
But I don't know if Butler needs any nickname, to tell you the truth. Just call him Billy Ray.

An admirable exercise
Esteban German = Steve Deutsch
Octavio Dotel = Dr Otto Octavius AKA Dr Octopus AKA Doc Ock
Emil Brown = Lime/Emily/Not just a snack
David Dejesus = Nobody f***s with the jesus
Mark Teahen = Mr T
Ross Gload = The G-Load
Brandon Duckworth = Ducky (best Buddy nickname)
Joel Peralta = Jo-El (like Superman names)
Gil Meche = The Epic (of Gilgamesh)

However, I have no good ideas regarding the four players who might be the most important to the long-term future of the team - Butler, Gordon, Greinke, and Soria.

Here's mine (a few are inspired)
Nicknames help build clubhouse aura and add pizzaz to the clubhouse chemistry.  As a generally young team, we need this.  We don't need the generico Buddy Bell nicknames, which add virtually nothing to our chemistry, but we need real nicknames, most of which originated in Royals blog nation.

Butler - Butts, The Butler Did It!, Billy The Kid, General Butts
Gload - Gload Will Explode!
Duckworth - The Quacker
Teahen - Mr. T (I like it)
Sweeney - Captain Backache (he's earned it)
Bannister - The Energizer Bunny, The Plug-In
Dotel - The Octapus, The Adventure
Gobble - Yimmy Yobble (or Himmy Yobble), The Everyman
Peralta - Jo-El (I like)
Riske - Un-riske (I dunno)
Costa - Shaaaannnneee!
Buck - Mr. Incredible
Greinke - Boy Wonder
Soria - Soria-out (I like this one)
Gordon - Gordo, Sargeant Gordo, A-Gord, King Alex
DeJesus - The Jesus (Spanish pron.)
Emil - E-Nil, E9, or E7 Brown until he proves to be a league average defender and batsman
Gathright - Gator, Joey G
German - Germy (we'll keep this)
Odalis - Odie (let's keep "Odie"!!)
Meche - Gilgameche, Gilgamesh
De La Rosa - JDLR (?)
Hochevar - Cool Hand Luke, Hoch
Pena - Jalapena, TJ
Grudzielanek - Grudz

And last, but not least.....

Buddy Bell................

FUDDO THE CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!

I Like A-Gor
For Gordon because it is a play on A-Rod and "Igor" being pronounced I-Gor in "Young Frankenstein".

I Don't Know How
I overlooked this. For Butler, the title to the movie this song came from:

"Go ahead and hate your neighbors, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing on the judgement day.
On the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away."

Ten bonus points for the name of that movie.

The Movie Was
"Billy Jack", an execrable but very popular movie from 1971. I tried to take my girlfriend to see it in Topeka, but the line was so long we went to another movie instead. I don't know if I've ever seen the whole movie, but it was quite the cultural phenomenon at the time.

I saw it and another terrible Billy Jack type
film at a drivein movie.  It was a Billy Jack film festival.  The second film was Billy Jack saving the life a young maiden who had been raped and pillaged by a gang of motorcyclists.

The only thing good about the whole thing was the hit song.

Hey I got the name right and the main character.  Do I win a prize?

by grudz69 on Jul 22, 2007 12:06 AM EDT reply actions

Lastly... POTN most of the people on this
blog were not even born when this movie came out.  That makes us very very old and geezerly.

by grudz69 on Jul 22, 2007 12:07 AM EDT reply actions

Very Lastly
You think I don't know that? I work with guys in their 20's. I have a dividing line question; "Who is Tom Jones?" The line is drifting north from 35. Under 35's have no idea who he is.

Billy Jack still would be a great nickname, just because "jack" is a home run in baseball parlance. It looks like "Boom Boom" is getting some traction, and it's not the worst option. Nicknames just happen most of the time, so picking one is not easy or even advisable most of the time.

What would be one if I was playing for the Royals?
I was thinking about a nickname for myself. Can you help?
