Veterans Pitching to the Bums, Orioles, Highlanders , Yanks

While I have little to no faith in Odalis or Elarton because they are typified by the early-season phrase 'vortex of sucktitude'....it might not be such a bad idea to have some 'seasoned' pitchers throw to the Yanks.

In recent years we have thrown some pretty green talent at them, (often in the Bronx, no less) and have had predictable results. E. Villacis, Greinke, C. George, Mike Wood, J.P. Howell

Why not throw Perez?  He definitely thinks he is better than any hitter, which is probably a good thing versus a lineup like NY has.

"It's not always stuff," McClure said. "It's competing and knowing yourself. It's knowing what you can and can't do. It's knowing your limitations and actually really believing that you are better than whoever is up there, no matter who it is.

and

[Odalis] Perez believes he is actually better than the guys he is facing. It's something that [De La Rosa] is going to have to get over."

Elarton also might have the memory and moxie that could get him through the order two or three times even if he winds up allowing three or four homers.  That is about all I expect from most of our starters this year.  Get us to the pen.

Or is our pen about out of gas?

Pen isn't out of gas
I now, Greinke and Soria each took a loss on the road trip, but that's bound to happen eventually. But, looking at the way the pen is being used, it's important to note that no one pitched more than twice in the Detroit series, and the key guys only pitched once. They should all be ready to go for the Yankees series; which is good, because we'll likely need all of them in the first two games of the series.

Elarton
can give up 4 hrs for all I can as long as they are solo shots the Royals would still have a chance.  Their offense has been pretty good lately so they can probably overcome that.

I think Scotty should be beamed
back to Wyoming.  The only bright side is that if he really gets rocked GMDM may end this failed experiment now.

I want the good Odie to show up tonight.

If He Fails To
Get an out the first time through the lineup, that should do it and we could still win the game.
Being a fan is irrational, but what is the alternative?

Buddo will at least let him try to go 5
no matter what the score.  He is a gritty veteran with problems he has to work through.  Buddo and Elarton a match made in heaven.

I'm just glad we've got the bullpen
It makes things not seem so hopeless when you've got a fairly hapless starter on the mound...for this reason and the resurgent offense, we've got shot even with Odie & Elarton slingin' it.

BigGuy made a good point
our bullpen, despite pitching plenty of innings, still is in good shape for this series. why? because buddy bell's greatest positive is his handling of the bullpen, he does it tremendously well.

tremendously, i can only hope the manager next year (if not bell) can do it as well as buddy can.

however, his playing time of larue over buck is criminal....

Referendum
I've recently seen "bums" on this site applied to both the Giants and the Yankees (twice).

Maybe I'm a purist, and maybe I'm just wrong, but I always thought of this as a Dodgers-specific term.

Can anyone back me up on this?

Bums Is
Bums; it only applied to the Dawjas when they were in Brooklyn, dodging trolleys. You are correct, though. I appropriated for use in the Bronx, and I like it.
