Dodger offer

According to 810 radio, the Dodgers have offered Hu for Dotel. They credited someone else w/ the info, but I missed who that was. Also don't know if it's 1 for 1 or if others are involved. If it is Hu for Dotel straight up, will Moore make the deal? I don't know much about Hu, other then what I have read from a couple of people here, and that was basically in comparison to other Dodger prospects. So enlighten me, fellow Royals fans: Is this good, bad, not enough, etc., etc.

Hu for Dotel
Is a good start but considering the Linebrink deal, I would need another mid-level pitching prospect or outfield prospect to make the deal. No one great, but someone that would have a chance at contributing at the big league level someday.

I like Hu a lot, and think he would be a good fit next summer.

Agree
with Royals Retro through a mid-level pitching prospect in there and it's a done deal.

Would have liked some power
I still say our biggest weakness is power from the corner OF positions. Hu doesn't distinctly upgrade us in power in the middle infield, and we lose our best bargainging chip for what we REALLY need. One of the 5 teams that are looking for Dotel has to have someone expendable that is better than the prospects we have in the OF right now (Meier, Lubanksi,???).

Maybe it's easier to by a corner guy in FA. I don't know. I trust GMDM is making the right moves, but on the surface this doesn't really curl my toes.

Hey
that would give us three straight futures game MVP's.

per the dodgers blog true blue la
here are some quotes from kevin goldstein about chin lung hu:

"He's definitely an everyday shortstop in the big leagues for me,"

"I think he's going to hit .290 or so with around 15 home runs a year, and he does it all defensively," he added. "At the very least he's solid, but he might be an All-Star as well," concluded the scout.

i would take that for dotel, easy.

I've also heard that
the Royals will get Meloan in addition to Hu.  That would be a pretty sweet deal for Dotel.

by lordbyronk on Jul 26, 2007 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no way that is happening
most dodgers fans are claiming that meloan is better RIGHT NOW, and if colletti isnt willing to give up abreu he wont give up meloan.

of course, if GMDM can pull off anything of the sort, he deserves GM of the year award.

what about dotel + maier or even lubanski for those two? i would definately do that deal, it gets us a replacement for dotel starting next year PLUS gives us a deathly middle infield combo. then, we can trade gritzy for a back of the rotation starting pitcher and we have ourselves a successful deadline.

15HR
is quite a bit generous

Wow
Way to shoot for the sky with Dotel, that Linebrink deal was quite retarded and Linebrink, even though struggling this year, is quite a bit more proven and consistent than Dotel(don't give me this closer vs. non-closer crap, Dotel isn't going to LA to close)

If you guys really want somebody with more power, shoot for Josh Bell, extremely powerful and toolsy, 2 problem

1)He's in A ball, and not even A+ I don't think.
2)He's a 3B...

but if you are willing to sacrifice polish for upside, there isn't a whole lot of player available with higher upside in the Dodgers system.

Let's go Royals! And Let's go Timmeh!

Hu and Josh Bell
Would be a nice deal, I like Bell quite a bit.

I think Justin Orenduff, Josh Wall, or Blake DeWitt would make good throw-ins as well...

I'm not sold on Hu
We better get somebody good in addition.

The end of the Grudz era
If we do swing a deal for a solid middle infielder, such as Hu, for Dotel I think that the rumors of Grudz to the Mets might come to fruition.  I'm betting Dotel and a low end prospect (such as Maier) to the Dodgers for Hu and Meloan followed quickly by Grudz and a middle grade prospect (such as Lubanski) for Lastings Milledge and a throw in.  But that's probably best case scenario.

by EricConley on Jul 27, 2007 8:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Unfortunately, I think Milledge is unrealistic
I like your scenario and I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I think Milledge isn't going to happen.  Milledge is playing well, his stats are good and, unlike last season, he's getting along with the other players.  It seems like this top prospect has righted his ship.  The Mets need him long-term, so I don't think he's on the table.

by NYRoyal on Jul 27, 2007 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Like I said, it's best case scenario
But I think if the package included a mid to high end OF prospect, like Lubanski, it might be doable.  It all depends on if Minaya(sp?) thinks that their hole at 2B is the only thing holding them back from winning a World Series this year.  If bringing in Grudz puts them closer to winning a World Series this year than holding on to Milledge will put them in future years I think they would do it.  You have to remember that New York (both the Mets and teh Yankees) are always expected to win now, not in two or three years.  So a move that gives them a chance to win now will always be at least considered.

The problem is, Grudz isn't that piece
Grudz is useful.  Average middle infield production with a great glove.  That doesn't put them over the top.  It helps them.  But it isn't like he's a good SP or a big power bat.  He's a useful piece and that isn't the kind of thing you usually trade a top prospect for.

by NYRoyal on Jul 27, 2007 10:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

"That piece" is relative
Grudz is a Gold Glove 2B who can hit second effectively by hitting for average, sacrificing, and even has a little pop in his bat.  For a team who already has a power line-up with a speed guy at the top they may just need a good 2 hole hitter who just so happens to be one of the best defensive 2B in the league.  You're right in that Grudz isn't the typical guy who you're going to see tied up in a blockbuster but for a team who is on the verge and knows they need to have a complete line-up to be able to compete against the AL in the World Series they may be willing to overpay a bit to ensure themselves of the best possible opportunity to win a World Series this year.  It all depends on how Omar feels about the percieved hole at 2B.  And don't count out the effect that a resurgent Yankees team can have on the Mets willingness to trade.  Those two teams, as I'm sure you know, are always competeing for the back page and are always being compared to each other.  If the Yankees continue to roll and maybe make a big move you can bet the Mets will be willing to deal just to keep up.

man
last I heard, Mark Loretta isn't commanding a lot. Grudzielanek isn't THAT MUCH better, I don't see Milledge, but the Mets has an interesting system.

Baseball Prospectus
Did a piece recently on piece on minor leaguers, and mentioned Hu:

"He's definitely an everyday shortstop in the big leagues for me,"

"I think he's going to hit .290 or so with around 15 home runs a year, and he does it all defensively," he added. "At the very least he's solid, but he might be an All-Star as well," concluded the scout.

Another scout was just as impressed. "He's just really come on this year. He's bigger and stronger and he's always had good hitting instincts, but now he's driving balls."

If Hu is picked up and we move Grudz
to the Mets, why not try to package something with Grudz for Mike Pelfrey?

by royaldaddy on Jul 27, 2007 1:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think we'd have to throw a lot in
to get Pelfrey.  That's a lot like trying to get Milledge.  I think it would take more than Grudz and a B- prospect like Lubanski to get either Pelfrey or Milledge.  I think we'd have to give up more than we want to in order to get either of those guys.

A guy that's somewhat
falling out of favour with the club is Aaron Heilman, we can go after him...
