The other day, somes friends got to talking about great players who never won or even got into a World Series. Ted Williams, Ernie Banks, those guys.
But I got to thinking about so-so players who've made it to the top. Lonnie Smith is at the top of my list. Poor Skates was so bad in leftfield he turned it into an art form. Remember how he'd recover from a botched catch, then immediately recover and throw out the runner at second? Pat Sheridan was on the Roylz World Series team and showed up later with... uh... somebody else in the Series. (Maybe didn't win that one.)
Anyway, I'm not all that great a numbers-cruncher but I bet someone has done the math. Anybody know of a list of Journeyman Champions; guys who never make it into the Hall of Fame withouth paying admission...or flashing their World Series rings?
