Magic number

With the Royals now 3 1/2 games ahead of Chicago following the Game 1 win today at the Metrodome, perhaps it's time to start thinking about the magic number to avoid the basement.

Through Game 1, any combination of 26 Royals wins and Chicago losses will clinch fourth place.  Then everybody can talk about the lowly White Sox!

Besides, after their fan behavior several years ago, what would be better than the Cubs winning the Series and the White Sox finishing last?

And only 3 more wins
To snap our streak of 100-loss seasons. And we won't keep hearing "lost 100 for 4 of the last 5 seasons" either.

Still, the "lowly Royals" press will probably mention us losing 100 for 4 of the last 6 seasons all of next year.

22 wins before the end of the season...
that is all I want...  that would put us at 81-81 and I would be doing backflips down the street.

Fourth Place
is ours.  I hope we could make third, but we'll have to play the Twins better head to head.  No 100 loss season is worth it's weight in gold.

Perhaps Keeping The
Losses under 90 would be a noble goal at this point in the season.
Being a fan is irrational, but what is the alternative?

Those bastard White Sox
will never be forgiven for beating up our kindly, grandpa-like first base coach a couple of years back.

Talk about loss of one's national innocence!
