PrintWith the Royals now 3 1/2 games ahead of Chicago following the Game 1 win today at the Metrodome, perhaps it's time to start thinking about the magic number to avoid the basement.
Through Game 1, any combination of 26 Royals wins and Chicago losses will clinch fourth place. Then everybody can talk about the lowly White Sox!
Besides, after their fan behavior several years ago, what would be better than the Cubs winning the Series and the White Sox finishing last?

Still, the "lowly Royals" press will probably mention us losing 100 for 4 of the last 6 seasons all of next year.
