Pena vs. Towers

Did you guys see the Yankees/Blue Jays "fight"?

Towers got mad a Tony Pena and said "He's a quitter. He's managing a team and quit in the middle of the season because he couldn't hack it and he's going to run his mouth to me?"

Ouch.

Hey, Towers. Wanna try managing the Royals under Glass?

I did always think that it was weird that even the two base coaches of the Yankees were former managers.  It's like the players who go there for the chance at a cheap championship.

Pena
I think he was a pretty poor manager.  And wasn't there a rumor that he quit before he could be fired because of some personal/private misdeeds?

Have to agree
Pena got lucky and the team had a hot streak and faded down the stretch.  The next year his flaws as a manager made him seem out of touch with the team.  Bell has been better.  He took the mess and made it into a team, the next manager will be thanking him.  Bell kind of reminds me of Trammell before Leyland, an average manager that will hopefully turn over the reigns to a great one.

yea, pena wasnt a good manager at all.
he was a good motivational speaker (so to speak) and knew how to inspire the players, but was horrible in the actual day to day managering.

glad we moved on...

Maybe Tony Pena wasn't a great manager
but I'd have him as a coach on my staff. He really is a good motivator. He didn't teach his players any discipline and they walked all over him. I just don't think he's tough enough to manage.

Dominican Durable
Is not Mexican tough; sometimes nothing else will do.
Being a fan is irrational, but what is the alternative?
