Still think I'm out of my mind?
Getting ready to head back to work, so I'll miss yet another game...but I was catching up on some reading, and zoomed back to August 15th. There was a discussion on how many wins we would have at the end of the year...I said I thought our record would be "67-95 with an outside chance of 70 wins" which did not go over very well.
I still could be way off if we suddenly get hot, but I won't hold my breath....As we near the end, if someone was to ask the same question again, I still can't see us getting more than 70-72 wins at best. (And that's the optimistic me.)
Don't know how to link back to that post, sorry. (Baseless pessimism?)

Pessimism

Even if they lose out, one could still argue
Gordon developing at an OK pace
Butler developing at perhaps a quicker pace than first thought possible
Bannister blossoming into a league top 10 starter
Soria showing ENORMOUS potential to be a dominant pitcher of some kind, be it closer or starter
Greinke rejuvinating his career. Potentially better than either Meche or Bannister?
Meche living up to his contract
Buck making some progress (concentrate on his BB and HR rates, and yes, this was progress, no matter what jbracato thinks about his batting avg)
Pena proving to be a defense-first stopgap at SS
Hochevar/Buckner showing they could fight for a rotation spot soon
That is a LOT of progress, IMHO! I think the above all offsets the few minor nuisances of 2007, such as LaRue, Brown, Shealy, O Perez, and the hopefully temporary dropoffs by DeJesus and Teahen.

In April I predicted this would be a 69 win season
I agree with most of the positives listed by L2D above, though I'm more disappointed than he is with the dropoffs of Teahen, De Jesus and Shealy and the bat of TPJ. Regardless of the finish, its been one of the best years for KC Royals baseball in the last decade. Due to the lack of position players in our high minors, I'm not hoping for anything better than .500 next year, but who knows? Dayton might pull out a few more surprises in the offseason.
