I know based upon NHZ's recent survey that there are not many hockey fans frequenting this corner of cyberspace, but did anyone happen to catch any of today's NHL "Winter Classic" in Buffalo? It was played outside before 70,000 people at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium (where the Bills play football). There was a driving snowstorm for much of the game, which made for great TV and an interesting game. It was really a lot of fun. Anyone who has ever played a little pond hockey in the winter could relate to the conditions and enjoy it.
I'm a former big NHL fan and I'd say that this was a nice step in the right direction for the league in terms of regaining some of its lost popularity. The fans at the game seemed to be having a ball. The league's young superstar, Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, scored the game-winning goal, to boot. Nice work by the NHL.
