Blez at Athletics Nation already let the cat out of the bag, so I might do so as well. Here's what he wrote:Fellow ANers, I just wanted to let you know that we've been working on a brand new blogging platform for a long, long time. The incremental steps that we took in making the comments auto-refresh was just an attempt at adding some existing functionality to our site.
But this will be a complete revamp. The whole look of the page will be completed different, so sometime in February when you log on, you will think that you might've stumbled onto the wrong page. We will be integrating so many more features and so many things that people have wanted for a long time that it will hopefully make nearly everyone happy (I know on the Internet, that's an impossible task).
It's been a long and arduous process, but we're in the final phases and it should launch very soon. It's been a bit of a "rebuilding" process, if you will.
If you spend a lot of time looking at the other network sites, you'll notice that some already look different, with a little bit different type size and with auto-refreshing comments (good for game threads) and recommended diaries, etc. Those elements, will be part of the new RR (although diaries will be changing big time...) as well as other new stuff.
More than anything else, the site will look very different... everyone will hate it at first, then in three days be used to it. It will look less like a blog (you know, stories just piled on top of one another one by one) and more like... well, yea. Farewell to walls of text, for better or worse. (You can probably guess where my loyalties lie.) As I said, the diaries will be changing dramatically, and, hopefully, for the better. Honestly, I haven't even had much of a chance to play around with the new site yet, but there will be alot of new things, and it should be easier to find basic Royals info on this site, without having to goto some other site to look up stats, etc.
Anyway, I'm nervous and excited about it, and we'll see how it all turns out... RR has basically looked the same since it launched in 2005, so its time for some tweaking.
