Barack Obama on the Royals

Braved the weather and the lines last night to attend the Town Hall meeting at Municipal Auditorium with Barack Obama.

In speaking of unity he evoked local sports, starting with the Missouri-Kansas rivalry.  This brought a a strong reaction from the crowd, including a short session of 'MIZ-ZOU'.

Next he stated how we loved our Cardinals, to which he received a flurry of boos.  After a short pause, he rescinded, "Oh, people here still care about the Royals?"

Most people thought this was funny but as a fan it was just yet another reminder of our place.  Here's to change and the promise of a better tomorrow.

Smart man!
I guess he left the Chiefs completely out of his speech!

Go Royals and Go Barack
On both Barack Obama and the Royals, I am fired up and ready to go!

Interesting article on how athletes are usually unwilling to get involved in politics, and when they do, they are Republicans:

What, no politics in pro sports?

peyton manning- thompson

I've searched in the past
I know Jeff Montgomery supported Dick Gephardt's run in 2004

George Brett seems to be a Republican

Glass gave to mostly Republicans, although he did give money to Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver, the Dem, and former KC Mayor who represents most of KC.

I know Dusty Baker gave money to Obama

Here's a list from Baseball Think Factory:

Ernie Harwell................$2,000 to Bush
Peter Magowan................$2,000 to Bush
Frank & Jamie McCourt........$4,000 to Kerry
Jon Miller...................$1,000 to Kerry
Rafael Palmeiro..............$2,000 to Bush
Mr. & Mrs. A-Rod.............$4,000 to Bush
Mrs. Tony Gwynn..............$2,000 to Bush
Nolan Ryan...................$1,000 to Bush
Vin Scully...................$1,000 to Bush
George Steinbrenner..........$2,000 to Bush

George Steinbrenner's a Republican
Now there's a big, fat surprise.

I could be wrong
But I think he's also given a ton of money to the Democrats too.

There's A Point
At which the rich and powerful no longer have political views, only "interests".

Others
Curt Schilling is a big John McCain fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l73n0w2Ov2k&feature=user

In addition, given his affinity for guns I think it's safe to put Luke Scott in the Republican camp as well: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?id=2691043

"I'm tired of all these stupid a$$ questions every day. Why the f**k would I hit Brett for Miller?" The rest is history.

I don't want to know
I prefer not to know about the political affiliations of my favorite players.  I'm still trying to forget that George Brett is good friends with Rush Limbaugh (they met and became friends when Limbaugh had a sales job with the Royals).

Similarly, I try to ignore when my favorite politicians (and that is a short list) express an interest in a particular sports team.

I probably disagree with you.

I can not stand Obama
I have not made up my mind who to like but its not Obama or Hillary.

I'm with you
If McCain, Romney, Clinton, and Obama are the only candidates to choose from, this country is in a lot worse shape than I thought.

We are treading on dangerous ground
On this site, we can all talk about what we want, but I think we should try to avoid talking about which candidates we like and don't like and why X is good or Y is bad or about how we like or dislike Democrats, Republicans, liberals or conservatives.  It could get really ugly.
I probably disagree with you.

Except
We can all agree the Whig Party is ruining America.

My favorite historical Am. political parties
These were all real national political parties which had a presidential candidate in at least one election:

Anti-Masonic Party (1826-1838)
Nullifier Party (1830-1839)
Anti-Nebraska Party (1854)
Readjuster Party (1870-1885)

I probably disagree with you.

How could you forget
The Know Nothing Party???

Know Nothings = Anti-Irish immigrant party
They were like the Tommy Tancredos of the 19th century.

Looks like society
is ripe for that sort of party again today. (I mean the anti-immigration stance, not the anti-Catholic).

A century and a half later, and we seemingly have made little to no progress in this country.

it's official
i hereby announce my intent to become a card-carrying member of the anti-nebraska party.  at the end of the day, what does nebraska bring to the table that america really needs?

As a Mizzou fan,
I see I was born about a century and a half too late.

Let me know if they ever revive the Anti-Nebraska Party. That's just classic.

Readjuster Party?
Does that mean you are constantly having to fix the way your underwear is riding?

by loyal2s dad on Jan 30, 2008 5:41 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Anti-Masonic Party
Was this party led by the Big Bad Wolf? What was the party most philosophically opposed to these guys? The Three Little Pigs Party?

by loyal2s dad on Jan 30, 2008 5:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Apathy party?
I have a Presidential Election book (complete with tallies of previous election results/primary results/explanations/etc.) and remember reading about an Apathy Party.  I have done no reading on the party, whatsoever.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

No Kansan Can
Forget the Prohibition Party. I seem to remember they got thousands of votes for president in Kansas every election when I was a kid.

abortions for some
tiny american flags for others

Best.Episode.Ever.

I still quote that all the time.

Unfortunately, I think we're in danger of having Kang vs. Kodos when it comes time for the general election.
