Grienke to Texas for...

it seems like most people think Grienke would go to the Rangers if traded. What is the most likely (or what would you want from Texas) return the Royals would get. My first choice (like most people here I would think) would be to sign Grienke long term, but if he made it clear he had no intention of doing that I would ask Texas for Kinsler, Salty, Cruz (and possibly one other throw in)

You're not getting Kinsler. He is off-limits.

Chris Davis, Ramirez/Salty/Teagarden and Harrison/Hurley would do it for me, but I don’t think Texas does it.

I see us going for Elvis Andrus, maybe Ramirez or Salty (both ex-Braves!) and one of those pitchers. I’m not very high on Andrus though and would find that a bit disappointing.

He may be off limits

But I would still ask for him, at least to start with. Might could go from him to two or three players instead during the process. Davis would be nice but I think between Butler/Shealy/Kila we can cover the 1B/DH positions. I’d be looking for C, OF, MI and a P.
Salty, Cruz, Arias? + a pitcher?

We should get the best players available

Asking for certain positions is what limited our ability to get value in the Beltran deal.

if we conclude that Furcal is out of our price range,

then I could definitely see GMDM going for Andrus.

I’ve heard great things about Andrus’s D and baserunning, but he is otherwise thoroughly unexciting.

If there is a Greinke trade,

I definitely would pursue the guys mention above (Davis, Salty, Arias, Harrison). Honestly, I would try to sign Greinke to an extension than try to trade him. If he will not sign, then we could trade him, but we have to exhaust that possibility before pursuing trades.

we just had a pretty big thread about the Greinke-to-Rangers trade not too long ago

I mostly agree with Retro’s proposed trade. Davis/MaxRam/decent throw-in was my mantra on the other thread and it remains so now. I could go with Teagarden over MaxRam if need be, but if Andrus was a part of the trade, then having an up-and-coming slugger as the other main piece would be imperative.

Between Harrison and Hurley, I’d probably rather have Harrison, but it’s close.

Where would you put MAX defensively

the word is that he won’t stick at catcher, although “his bat will play anywhere.”

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

I think the word varies on who you ask

Ramirez will never be a great defensive catcher, but word has it that his arm strength and accuracy are both decent, and that his game-calling abilities have improved quite a bit since his A ball days. He’s different from, say, Billy Butler in that you could already tell in the minors that BamBam was hopeless at every defensive position, but aspects of Ramirez’s defense have continued to improve. I’d let him prove that he can’t hack it as a big league catcher before moving him.

That said, if MaxRam won’t stick at catcher, I’d let him and Butler duke it out for the job of everyday first baseman, and the other guy can DH, with Shealy or Kila backing them up.

Any deal to Texas...

would have to include Chris Davis. The other parts could fall into place. It all starts with Chris Davis.

someone at the rangers sb site said

they’d do—

Chris Davis
Jarrod Saltalamacchia OR Taylor Teagarden
Matt Harrison OR Eric Hurley

I am very much anti Zack trade, but a Davis/Teagarden/Hurley package would be very intriguing.

A lot of us would probably want to sign ZG to an extension rather than trade him

But that being said, I think a lot of us would also do a Davis/Teagarden/Hurley trade for Zack, including me.

I wonder if the poster who had the stones to suggest that

add one more a Ball prospect pitcher and it's a deal.
