I Guess Ryan Dempster's Glove-Flicking Wrist Flipping Thing Doesn't Work in October

That glove-flicking, wrist-flipping...
…thing worked incredibly well for 6 months. It’s a darn shame it didn’t work last night. He choked. Now we need Zambrano to not choke. Thankfully we’ve got Ted Lilly in the pen. But the Cubs’s bats lost the game last night, really. During the season they inexplicably would just lose their offense for a few games. Sigh. I hope we don’t have to wait ’til next year—-AGAIN. – TL
Go Dodgers!

I'm rooting for the Cubs,
but I gotta say, that HR Ramirez hit last night was just INSANE!
Excellent breaking ball, dropped down literally to Manny’s shoetops, and he hits it ten miles. I would venture to say most players would have struckout on that curve, even if they were sitting on it. A player would most likely be happy to simply foul that pitch off!
That is the sort of talent that is lacking in KC’s lineup. We really, desperately, need to add a bat of that quality to our lineup. No more $12 million band-aids, go out and spend 20 or 25 million on a true superstar, and you don’t have to worry about “age 32 decline”. If you are starting from an OPS of 950 or 1000, a little bit of decline still leaves you with a guy worth the extra money.
It will be interesting
To see what kind of contract he gets this winter and who gives it to him. I would guess the Dodgers are leading contenders.

Interestingly,
Bill Simmons is hoping beyond hope that Manny stays in LA – because he fears if Manny doesn’t sign there, then the obvious choice is the Yankees.
Simmons is dreaming
He’s basing this on the assumption that Hank will be in charge. I find it hard to believe that Cashman would stay on without the same assurances from Hank and Hal that he got from Big George the last time around.
The Yanks are going to target Teixeira for sure, and probably Sabathia.
I don’t think there’s a chance in hell this will happen, but if I’m the Yanks, I’d sign Furcal and move Jeter to CF next year. Speed and vision aren’t Jeter’s problems, it’s his IF range. At worst, he wouldnn’t be any worse. As his second half and overall line proves, he can still hit, and hit well enough to be an above-average offensive CF. Furcal isn’t going to be that expensive, relatively speaking, so the Yanks can just sit around then offer him a bit more to come play. It would solve their IF defense problems at SS (A-Rod is a good defender at 3rd, but while he can probably play SS better than Jeter at this point, he can’t necessarily play it well, from what I’ve read) as well as helping them avoid trading prospects for someone like DDJ. I don’t blame Jeter or any player from resisting such a move, but he should do it — it didn’t hurt Cal Ripken’s rep when he moved to 3rd, and CF is a better position. No one’s ever going to forget that Jeter was the best SS in Yankees history. They could sign Furcal, get a good CF, and still have enough money left for Tex.
Oh well, that’s not my problem. Then again, neither is the Royals roster…

Not suprised
With both Manny and Angel in the clubhouse, I have no doubt that the Dodgers have the most… “relaxed” group of guys in the playoffs.
