After recent call-up Angel Berroa homered in a crucial victory over Arizona, Manny translated for Berroa's postgame interview with FSN's Patrick O'Neal, only Angel and Manny were giggling the whole time, and then it turned out Berroa could speak English after all. Hardee-har-har. Note to O'Neal: When you're getting duped by Manny Ramirez and Angel Berroa on live TV, it's time to hang it up and find your true calling in life.

Somehow Simmons critique of O'Neal

…reminds me of some of the critiques I’ve recently read about a certain politician.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Angel Berroa also revealed

That he has been a good ballplayer this whole time, but he was playing crappy for the Royals the last five seasons as an elaborate practical joke at the behest of Manny Ramirez.

I thought it was his best in a while

Just good writing, and get’s across one fans perspective really well.

I like Gammons, but it was about time someone called him out for being a shill for the Epstein Sox besides Yankees blogs. Simmons could have been more blunt with Gammons, but it’s a start.

He probably was as harsh on Gammons...

as was humanly possible since they both work for the worldwide leader. I found his shots at Theo to be pretty funny. Maybe taking a summer off from writing columns will help Simmons regain his fastball. So far so good this year.

the shots at Theo were funny

And I think people need to write about how Gammons has done this after each “Boston superstar” has been shipped out by Theo, et. al. — the same thing happened with Pedro and Nomar — Gammons just repeated the Boston F. O. line, except with his “respected journalist” imprimatur.

Still, um, Bill? If it wasn’t for Theo, you’re looking at probably 0 championships since 1918, still.

I like how that column had footnotes

somehow Simmons ended up being totally refreshing (his slams on “team chemistry” and RESPECT THE GAME) and cliche at the same time (hatred of Boras)

great column

The footnotes would have been a better touch

IF THEY HAD FUCKING HYPERLINKED THEM. Having footnotes randomly in the middle of the page in an on-line html document without them being hyperlinked is about as brilliant as, in academic bookwriting having endnotes (computerized type setting should make these a things of the past) so that you have to use an extra finger in the back of the book — this sucks when taking notes at the computer.

oh yeah

that’s what I liked about it, too. That’s Simmons for you — when he’s on, even he’s cliche’s are good, like the smell of Zack Greinke’s girlfriend’s breath.

[Note to Zack: You’re dating a beauty queen who, on her own, has no future that doesn’t start with car shows and end in a seedy hotel room in the Nevada countryside. You are a talented professional athlete. I’m pretty sure she’s good with breath mints. Do the math, Donald.]

New Curse?

I’m no Dodger fan and, of the 4 NL teams in the playoffs, they’re the team I would ususally least want to win, but something is brewing here. . .

The Curse of the MANbino!

By trading their great slugger, the Red Sox have ruined their chances for the next 80 years to win another championship. I see the Dodgers winning it all this year, and the Red Sox remaining competitive, but never getting that elusive World Series victory. It’s beautiful: Sox fans turn back into whiners and are no longer quite so chic.

P.S. I prefer “The Curse of Manny-Being-Manny,” but you know which one people will latch on to. (And by “will” I am asserting that this will really happen.)

P.P.S. Manny signs with the Royals this summer (4 years/$110 million) for the worst OF defense in history, but a huge boost in offense?
