I Remember 1980

Like it was last week; getting there was great, but the defeat was very deflating. Definitely worth the ride, though.

I also remember 1980

I was just a young teen, but i remember being completely bummed…it was deflating, particularly after having finally getting past the Yankees after three prior ALCS losses.

Given the long drought

Yes. It would.

I know I’d be at one of the games.

Even if they swept, we’d be guaranteed two World Series games at Kauffman. There’s no price on that

Wrong

If we had a season that led to a WS, the entire Sports Complex (including thousands of tailgaters) would be like a mini Mardi Gras.

So, this is probably a stupid question...

I was watching the game w/ the sound off, so I’m sure this was addressed, but are the rules that govern a regular season Rain-Shortened game the same rules that govern a World Series game?

e.g. if Pena didn’t drive in Upton, would the Phillies be World Champs by TKO?

by GoBabies!! on Oct 27, 2008 11:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

nevermind...

I found the answer to my own question, apparently Bud Selig may be growing some brain cells…

“The one thing he did right was decide that if the game were postponed in the fifth inning, he wasn’t going to declare the Phillies, who were leading 2-1 at that point, the winners, as the rules require. Instead, he’d have allowed a rain delay of as many days as are necessary to resume the game.”

sorry

and there are CARS, you know… if she’s really nuts

Here’s a funny story that may or may not make you feel better:

A good friend of mine from university was dating this nice girl. He really liked her, but she was, well, a bit “flakey.” Turned out she believed in werewolves. My friend was having a hard time with this, but he really sort of liked her otherwise. He had talked about this girl and her “eccentricities” with his sister…

Anyway, after he gets off the phone with his girlfriend, he calls up his sister, and as soon as she picks up the phone, his first words are “Well, I just got done talking to ‘werewolf girl’.”

Yeah, except he hadn’t auto-dialed his sister. It was his girlfriend. Or, better, soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend.

That does make me feel better, thanks.

And yes, thank you for making me aware of the existence of CARS. We’re not an item, gosh dang it!

thought I was sending it to someone else, not the person I was writing about. As soon as I hit the “send” button, I realized my mistake and broke into a cold sweat. I was able to joke my way out of it, but it was way uncomfortable.
