Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

RR Royals #8 Prospect

#1 Mike Moustakas, 3B
#2 Eric Hosmer, 1B
#3 Daniel Cortes, RHP
#4 Kila Ka'aihue, 1B
#5 Daniel Duffy, LHP
#6 Carlos Rosa, RHP
#7 Tim Melville, RHP
#8 ???

Melville jumped out to an enormous lead so we'll just call this one.

Robinson is off, Dickerson and Wood on.

Short scouting reports:

Joe Dickerson | RF | 22-years-old | 6-foot-1, 190 pounds
-Tweener outfielder with very good hit tool and good eye. Good speed underway, but doesn't translate well on the basepaths. Uses the gaps for extra base hits, enough strength to hit one out on occasion. Must keep hitting to remain prospect as he's likely locked into a corner spot.

Johnny Giavotella | 2B | 21-years-old | 5-foot-8, 185 pounds
-Small second baseman that can hit. Quick hands, good eye, lets ball travel deep into zone which gives him some power. Average defender. Does everything well, but nothing great -- similar to David DeJesus.

Daniel Gutierrez | RHP | 21-years-old | 6-foot-1, 185 pounds
-Late round draft pick in '05 with electric arm. Fastball is in the low 90's and has been higher. Curveball is a plus pitch for him. Changeup self admittedly needs some work. Might have best mix of stuff and command in system.

Mike Montgomery | LHP | 19-years-old | 6-foot-5, 180 pounds
-Long, athletic, projectable southpaw that scouts can dream on. Fastball currently 89-92, with very good changeup already, and a slow curveball. Also has a palmball. A couple improvements in mechanics will help his long term stock.

Blake Wood | RHP | 23-years-old | 6-foot-5, 240 pounds
-Big, workhorse type frame. Fastball in the low-90's that runs up to 95. Plus curveball with a noticeably improved changeup this year. Command still needs work, but showed flashes of brilliance at times this year.

Montgomery

1. Looking for projection at this point
2. Name Montgomery bring back memories, good ones
3. Tyler Sample needs to be on this list at some point soon, despite horrific initial results.

Gotta be Blake Wood here

You can forgive a 5.3 ERA in half a season at AA when the player flies through 4 levels in 2 years. His cumulative stats last year include 8.7 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9. That’s a ton of strikeouts with a 3:1 K/BB ratio.

I agree

Although I can certainly see people going with Montgomery.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Montgomery is a lefty with good stuff, thats always nice.

Looks like its going to be close for #9. Choosing between Wood, Gutierrez, and Giavotella is a tough choice.

Go Royals!

i think he’s to breakout soon, he’s gunna be a keeper!

I like him a lot too

But I’m going to wait for him to breakout before putting him in my top 10. He did really well in low-A. If he pitches really well in high-A and avoids any more stupid mistakes that get him suspended for months, he’ll move up significantly on my list.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

The really great thing about Paulo Orlando

With him in the field, you wouldn’t need any other OFers. He could easily cover all of the ground by himself. So just put him out there and the LF and RF positions could be played by all-bat DH-only types. They could even stay in the dugout.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

SIX INFIELDERS

Think about that.

Brilliant! put TPJ about 8 feet from home

to distract the hitter and snag balls right off the bat.

This deep into the list

I wouldn’t mind seeing, at the very least, what level they played at last season. Also,, where they were drafted and/or main stats from their last season.

I know I’m asking for more work to be done but this is if you have the time.
