Who could the Mets blow us away with?
In today's Newsday, one of the sports columnists discusses the Mets' need for a closer, and suggests Joakim Soria as a possible trade target. We all know it would take a heck of a lot to get Soria from the Royals. Do the Mets have it? I'd think they're depleted after trading for Johan Santana, but who knows...maybe they have something great the Royals would be willing to trade even the Mexicutioner for?

Their farm system is pretty depleted
Any conversation would have to start with OF Fernando Martinez, although honestly, I’m not that high on the kid.

And, considering they were completely unwilling to trade him a part of a package for Johan Santana.
I doubt they’d be willing to trade him for Joakim Soria.
Carlos Gomez, Jr.

I honestly don't think the Mets would be willing to trade for Soria
because the Royals’ asking price would probably be far higher than the Mets would be willing to pay, plus, if Eddie Kunz continues to develop, the Mets may only need a stopgap closer for a year or two.
I agree with Retro, though—any talks would have to start with Martinez. And probably Jon Niese too, but really, if we were to trade Soria, I think we could find a better trade partner than the Mets.
Brewers would seem good
but I don’t think they’d give up Hardy (who’s two years away from FA), which would be the best. Fielder is good, but overrated — as bad as Jacobs on defense. No way in hell they’d trade Braun. Any good position players in the high minors?

1B/3B Matt Gamel
SS Alicdes Escobar, but I’m not that high on him. It would take way more than that to land Soria though.
Huston Street is a much more likely candidate to be dealt to a team like the Mets.

Rather have Hardy than Escobar
I’ve read that’s not true of the Brewers, though

youre right... the brewers are rumored to be trying to make room for the youngster.
Don't forget to send your broken maples to the US Forest Service.
I'm pretty big on Mat Gamel
He put together a .329/.395/.537 line before being promoted to AAA Nashville. His career minor league line is .306/.370/.490. I like him more than Escobar as well. Does anyone know if he’ll stick at 3rd base, or might he need to transition to 1b in the bigs?
I could be wrong
But I think I heard he is Braun-like in his defense and will need to move to 1B.

Braun Can't, But
He’s doing it.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Really? What Little
I saw of him this year did not look good. I just checked his Wiki, and if it’s accurate he’s the best LF in the league. I guess I’ll have to pay more attention.

it's just one year, of course
I think Matt Holliday was a lot better of the NL guys, and probably some others were, as well

i've heard Kunz has been a disappointment of sorts
might end up as a ROOGY.
Rowdy Hardy Fan Club member.
Might he win
ROOGY of the Year?
Chaim Mattis Keller New York City's # 1 Royals fan!
I've heard mostly the opposite
I haven’t seen any splits for his minor league numbers, but Kunz just had a very solid year in the ’pen in AA Binghamton. Walks were a big issue, but he otherwise still seems to be a good prospect, with decent H/9 and K/9 numbers and a pretty high ratio of ground balls. Sickels likes him a lot.
Should change his name to Rusty

Not a chance
Thanks for your interest Mets, but seriously, take a hike.
Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.
I'd take Jose Reyes, straight up
might even through in Rosa, if he’s still around
(yes, this is a joke, serial overreactors)

Ahem
this comment could be applied to those Royals fans that want to switch the Mexicutioner to a starter…
+1
