I Have That

Game on, but I missed that.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

i wasn't listening at first...

he could have actually been talking about THIS year

but yea… there was also something about “four young stars ready to develop” or something like that

According to Harold,

Kenny Williams said the Tigers are getting old, the Indians’ window is closing, and the Royals are going to turn the corner the next couple years.

I’m not convinced, primarily because I can’t get out of my mind the notion that DM was the top bidder for Andruw Jones.

P.S. Anything in the world is better than hearing Red Sox fans erupt after the Angels blow another opportunity. God I hate the Red Sox. Damn it, they just screwed up a double play and let the Red Sox score. Back to Monday Night Football…

Really?

I’m not disagreeing, just wondering what you base his assholishness on.

Oh, it's not "real" a-hole ness

I got it from Aaron Gleeman (who ironically wrote at some point that Toriiiii was his favorite twin), who would mock Toriii for his self-proclaimed team leader status, like when he punched Justin Morneau, or called out Joe Mauer for not playing hurt like Iron Man Torii (who hadn’t played a full season for a while.

So he’s probably not that bad. Kirby Puckett turned out to be a Kevin MItchell level bastard, from what I’ve read, but it woud be unfair to hold his Hunter’s friends against him. But what i’m really irritated about is the rep as a stud outfielder. He’s a good player, no doubt. Hey, he did steal that homer from Bonds in the All-Star Game. But his career OPS+ is 105. DDJ’s is 104 — we’re used to DDJ being underrated, but he has the OBP advantage (I think Hunter busted out a career high .344 this year. LOOK OUT KEVIN YOUKILIS).

So, he’s not really an asshole, so much as he bugs me. People act like he’s one of the great players, but while he is probably better than DDJ (who is underrated), I don’t think he belongs in the same conversation with Sizemore and Granderson as an overall player — even in his prime, really. I’m sure someone will whip out the stats to show me I’m wrong. Fine, but here’s something from last year that will always give me pleasure. It’s the list of the best defensive CFs in the AL last year, according to UZR:

Sizemore +26
Granderson +18
Dejesus/Crisp +13

That’s right, the 5/90 man (and Anaheim is perfect for him) was at most the 4th best defensive CF in the AL Central last year. A bargain at twice the price.

by the way

a grudging congrats on the Red Sox advancing to the ALCS. At least Varitek didn’t get the winning hit.

Any fantasy projections for Lowrie next year?

Thanks

I have a feeling that the rest of the world is about to be disappointed with the ALCS results, based on the run differentials and a healthy Slim JD.

Lowrie’s going to hit, it’s just a matter of whether or not the Sox think he can swing it at shortstop. His value drops significantly if he’s got to move from there….Pedroia is locked in at second, and Lowell’s coming back next year at 3B.

I'm hoping the Rays success this season

small sample size, but Lowrie’s RZR is comparable to guys like Everett and Aybar, as is his OOZ per inning.

How will he hit? I guess I have Granderson, whom I love, but I might be able to trade for Lowrie and Chris Davis… I need to get “younger” given our salary structure, but I also need Granderson’s steals.

My educated guess is

that he’ll handily outdo his 739 OPS this year. He hit .258…with a LD% 7 percentage points higher than J.D. Drew’s. He’s also shown good plate discipline in the minors and could add some more walks as he fills out. Next year, let’s call it .350/.430, with more power coming in the second half and go from there. THat could spike up if his LD% holds and his luck reverts.

Huh

PrOPS has Lowrie at .723 OPS this year. Much of a base stealer?

I'm aware what PrOPS says

I think he’s slightly underperformed given how well he’s hit in the minors.

I wouldn’t bet on the Sox cutting loose anyone other than Crisp or Ellsbury…but you never know. They let Pedroia steal this year.

what do you think of PrOPS?

Just eyeballing it since I learned about it from Zeppelin, it seems to really favor sluggers.

Any 2009 projection for Lowrie from you yet?

Yeah

I sometimes think Torii’s overratedness is due to the fact that the talking heads know jack shit about non-east coast teams…so when they look at a team like the Angels or Twins winning, they have to latch onto someone who is good…and flashy like Hunter.

I don't know how to feel about this

If KW thinks the Royals are going in the right direction, then maybe we’re not. But then again… Oh well, at least the White Sox are about to get ousted from the playoffs.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

excellent, life can go on

I listened to the game on the radio yesterday as I drove through Iowa and they said how strange it was that people got stepped on in the batter’s box and at first base when our friend A.J.P. was playing. Biggest jerk in baseball, in my opinion. Sorry NYRoyal, I don’t have stats to back that up. I’m hooked on a feeling.

and, I won the bet with myself that NYRoyal would be the first one to make this comment!

morse would have had better odds if he wasn’t still getting settled.

I’m going to miss you guys. Let’s never ever spend a day away from this blog.

ugh

and kruk proves why everyone hates ESPN. his turn to say something about jason bay, and instead he has to take a shot at pittsburgh. that must earn cred within the office when they take a shot at teams not playing well on the air.
