Interesting post on Prince Fielder and where he may land. In the comments section there are several comments about a Greinke for Fielder swap. Initially I thought it sounded good but I think we could do much, much better.

I also saw that J.J. Hardy is a possible trade candidate. What does everyone think, would Greinke+Teahen+prospect land Fielder + Hardy? My feeling is that it might take more or depend on who the prospect is, but I don't think I'm great at judging trades. I don't know about Fielder - career 130 OPS+ and .370 OBP is pretty good, but I'm not sure about is defense (fielding pct. below ML avg, I couldn't find zone ratings).

Would someone like Hochevar or Davies bring back one of the two, if a prospect was thrown in? Thoughts?

I don't know about the value, either

I think that the Brewers have control of Hardy through 2010 (same as Royals w/ Greinke) and Fielder through 2011 (correct me if I’m wrong). I personally wouldn’t do that trade if I’m them, and it would be great for the Royals. I like Teahen, but, hey… Guess the prospect would have to be pretty damn good.

Fielder is a good hitter, but he’s one of the worst defensive first baseman in baseball (i.e., his reptutation may not win him a Gload Glove, but he’s definitely got the stats),. he’s a born DH. So either he or Butler would have to play the field. Of course, since it appears to this observer that DMGM isn’t a bit BB fan, maybe he would be thrown in to make the trade happen… becomes less attractive to the Royals then. But if they aren’t going to give Butler a chance anyway, yeah, Greinke+Butler (prospect? who?) for Fielder and Hardy would work… if they aren’t able to resign Greinke. It would work for me.

Teahen’s no great shakes, but relatively speaking, the Royals have no one else who can play the outfield, whereas there’s a potential logjam of unproven/mediocore players at 1B/DH with Butler, Kila, Shealy, Gload, and probaby JoGui, too, given his wizardry in the field. That might look good, but there’s no good way to paint the Royals corner outfield situation without outside help. Teahen’s probably not going to get much better at offense, but the in-house options look worse.

Greinke and Billy for Fielder and Hardy

I’d make that trade.

Steady on

it’s not moronic when you factor in service time.

Heyman

apparently discusses a Cain for Fielder and Hardy “rumor.” To me Zack is as valuable as Cain. Cain is signed very affordably through 2010 with a club option for 2011 at $6.26MM, but I think Zack’s numbers are more impressive given his competetion in the AL central (as opposed to the NL worst). I’m just wondering if Zack alone could bring those two over…

Grienke+Butler

For Prince + Hardy (we might have to throw in a prospect) then go after a pitcher in Free Agency?

An option

I personally like having Soria as our closer. It’s nice knowing that when he comes in the door is slammed in the other teams face.

I personally

don’t like losing more than we win, despite a closer who slams the door in the other team’s face.

Fielder and Hardy

Is too much. Hardy will land the Brewers quite a bounty on his own on the trade market. They will not package the two together, and I’m not even convinced they’ll trade Hardy (Escobar is still very unproven, and they may move Hardy to 3B anyway after Hall’s awful season).

Greinke for Fielder straight up would be an awfully intriguing idea. Greinke/Teahen for Fielder/pitcher (Parra? Villanueva?) would be hard to pass up.

I just don't see the Royals moving Greinke,

especially when all they are ever quoted on emphasizes the importance of the starting rotation. A 25 year old, under two more years of team control, poised to develop into a perennial Cy Young contender? Those are the types of commodities teams aspire to ACQUIRE, not trade.

Why are they trading Fielder?

I thought a lot of that logjam they had at 1b/3b with Laporta Braun Gamel and Fielder wassolved when Laporta was traded and Braun moved to the OF.

Accidentally not thedude925 anymore. I do hate this new name.

I think

He has resisted signing a long-term deal (Boras client), I thought I heard he is unhappy there and a bit of a clubhouse nuisance, Gamel will likely shift to 1B someday and they drastically need to improve their pitching staff.

I could be wrong about some of that.

NO WAY.

Grienke is worth Fielder and Hardy and a prospect by himself.

Don't forget to send your broken maples to the US Forest Service.
