Adam PacMan Jones is DESTROYING OUR NATIONAL INNOCENCE
At least half the people I've seen on ESPN this afternoon sound as if they want him dead.
A nation is shaken.

Cats have nothing on our national innocence
Nine lives is only the tip of the iceberg for our national innocence.

How and why does one get into a fight with one's own bodyguards
Sounds like a pretty serious impulse control problem. Most human beings grow out of that in their teens.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

That's a perfect comparison?
I’m also sick of the press and everyone complaining about the sub-prime lenders destroying our national innocence. It’s not a big deal, and even if it is a big deal, we totally deserve it and there are worse crimes. They didn’t commit genocide, and did any even see them give those mortgages??? Innocent until proven guilty, my friends.
And don’t even get me started on the unfair persecution of Rae Carruth.
I wish people would get a grip. But I guess that’s just the way it is in AmeriKKKa.

Sorry, I just don't get it
I regretted it as soon as I wrote the comment, but I don’t get your point.
I with you on Manny, for sure. I only wish the blogsphere had taken Gammons (whom I actually like most of the time) to task for his part in the outcry (he shouldn’t be allowed to write/talk about Red Sox related stuff at all).
I’m mostly with you on the steroids stuff, particularly given the press’s refusal to look into it earlier.
But Pacman is a different case — this guy has a history of violent behavior, and just keeps doing it. It sounds like the guy he (allegedly) got in a fight with is a bodyguard the ‘boys (and I’m a Dallas fan, so I’m ready to be banned) hired to keep him out of this stuff, of all people. He’s connected with a lot of stuff, and frankly, it sounds like because of his connection with Cowboys, the cops ignore a lot.
You are dead right when you point out that Kenny Rogers assaulting the camera man was worse than any steroid crap. But isn’t Jones past that line at this point?
Of course, that comes back to Manny, who basically assaulted a senior citizen without provocation. Naturally, the press is more worried about him “dogging it” in July (cf. Sheehan’s great piece on unfiltered on this) than that. And, of course, the Red Sox didn’t bother to discipline him for it.

If no one is pressing charges, and therefore there is no crime here, then should we care?
The fact that he has prior bad acts on his record doesn’t mean they (either the NFL or the Cowboys) should overreact to any and every scuffle he gets into which isn’t a violation of the law. At least that’s my two cents.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

if the cameramen hadn't pressed charges against Rogers,
would MLB have been wrong in suspending him?

No
You have a point. It isn’t all just about if a crime has been committed. But if no crime is committed, then there needs to be something else, something clearly wrong and over the line. Rogers certainly was. Some cameraman was just doing his job and The Gambler lost it for no good reason and took it out on the poor guy. In Jones’s case, from what I’ve heard so far, Jones and the bodyguard were friends who got into very mutual trashtalking which lead to a mutual fight. It doesn’t seem like there was a victim there.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

I'm admitting I don't know much, or saying he should suspended for sure
but I do understand if the league is investigating, particularly given his history. I mean, I’m not worried about our NATIONAL INNOCENCE being violated by a busted up bathroom and Pacman getting drunk and running out on a dinner check (is that this incident, or an earlier one?). But wrecking a bathroom (if that’s what happened) indicates it is more than just two guys wrasslin’ for fun.
Were the police brought in or not? I guess I somehow doubt that if me and a friend smashed up a hotel bathroom getting into a fight (and the notion is hilarious on several levels), that the cops could so easily be assured that it was no big deal and let us go after we cleared it up.

Taking it seriously
The NFL and the Cowboys should definitely take it seriously and investigate. They should try their best to find out what happened and act accordingly. But it seems like the media has rushed to judgment. It’s as if he was on public image probation and therefore any negative act gives them the right to come down on him as if he were a mass murderer.

I don’t know these details either. But here’s the thing, if you and I got into a fight and smashed up a hotel room, the police would likely get called (if we really did a lot of damage, or if we wouldn’t stop fighting when security told us to stop). But, if neither of us wanted to press charges and if we were willing to pay for all damage to the room immediately, no one would get arrested, much less charged.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

maybe, but one thing is for sure
If you and I got into a fight in a hotel room and somehow managed to damage anything of value, it would shatter the Unintentional Comedy Scale as we know it today.

um,
didn’t Rae Carruth have his friend shoot his pregnant girlfriend? Maybe I’m just a victim of the messed-up media, but isn’t that what happened?
