Aviles robbed of Rookie of the Year

Some guy from Tampa I have never heard of won. Aviles finished a distant fourth behind Alexei and Jumpin Jacoby.

Joey Devine got a second place vote????

The person who won only got it

Seriously, not that we expect these things to make sense

I don’t mind Aviles losing to Longoria, but Ellsbury and Ramirez? Aviles was (charitably, to them) 1.5-2 wins better than either of those guys, in significantly less playing time.

What next, a -40 CF or Michael Young winning a Gold Glove?

Age was an issue

Aviles didn’t relate well to the young voters.

We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view, Tangled up in blue.

Ramirez is 27.......?

Maybe. Could be 32 for all we know.

I thought

He would do well with the Hispanic vote.

thats a terrible result

first place is arguable, second place is rightfully his, third is borderline acceptable and fourth…

fourth reveals an inattentive electorate

by royalsreview on Nov 10, 2008 3:11 PM EST   0 recs

+1

Revealing even more inattentiveness is that there was a tie for fourth—Aviles simply won by way of having more 2nd-place votes.

I mean, who cares

we know these things are BS. but Aviles was I repaet, more than a game better than Ramerez, and even more distance is between him and White Grady Sizemore Without The Power or Defense Or Walks. Again, he had at least 100 fewer PAs than either of them to do it in.

Morans.

The NL Voting for ROY is hilarious

Edinson Volquez and James Loney got votes….even though neither are rookies. My god, Loney has been a big leaguer since 2006.

Edinson Volquez got three votes in the NL.

Volquez was not a rookie.

I don't even know what to make of that

I mean, I can’t determine an emotion for this.
Should I be angry?
Should I simply feel the writer’ should be ashamed of themselves?
Should I be happy to demonstrate the stupidity of the writer’s?

It makes the Michael Young and Nate McLouth Gold Gloves more reasonable

At least they were eligible for those awards.

Reminds me of Guitar Player's "Reader's Choice" awards or whatever

back when I was in high school/college. Jeff Healey won “Newcomer of the Year” at least 3 times in a row…

Or The Scholarly

“Who’s better, Eddie VanHalen or Ace Freley?” polls.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Maybe Michael Young's Gold Glove was for 1B?

He’d probably be pretty damn good over there…

Actually, I am glad

Royals who won ROY awards did not fare well in future years (ignoring Beltran, but he, like sweet Lou, quickly became a non-Royal).

Like who?

Angel Berroa made the playoffs and Bob Hamelin won an arm-wrestling tournament. How did they not fare well?

well, it's not like they helped out the Royals

Aviles would have had to have been traded, or he would have to get out of shape
