Stated the team had flexibility to go to $70 million and beyond, but doesn't see the players out there right now to spend that $$$. He also said that you can win a WS with the payroll we have now.

Sorry I didn't gather all the info, but he touched on signing Greinke long-term, Aviles' position and what's coming up. If anyone else has info to add, please do.

He could obviously be full of sh!t, but he did dispel any notion that he doesn't have the ability to go out and spend additional money to upgrade the team as he sees fit.

I'm not blown away

With this year’s FA class. Frankly I’m glad he’s not spending money just to be spending money – that’s an Allard Baird move (Elarton, Scott; Sanders, Reggie; Redman, Mark)

Did all those guys together make $12 million in one year, though?

Reggie Sangers gave the Royals better offensive production in 2007 in 85 PAs than JoGui did this whole year.

Look, Moore is obviously doing a better job than Baird did (although it’s starting to be closer than people think, especially when adjusted for owner interference), but signing Guillen, talking about OBP and then resigning Olivo and trading for Jacobs are very much spending money/making moves just to be doing it.

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

i'm sure we could find a stretch

of 85 ABs for JoGui that were better than the Colonels.

Yea

I didn’t mean he hasn’t done that in the past, just that I’m glad to hear he says he won’t do it in the future. Of course, alcoholics also say they can stop whenever they want.

I guess I'm puzzled by all the negativity toward Jacobs

He may have a low OBA, but the Royals desperately needed power and more importantly, the Royals didn’t give up much in return. He may not be a long-term solution, but he’s an upgrade from Gload.

the problem comes

from still having Gload on the roster.

You should go look back at all the older posts

the issue isn’t just whether he’s better than Gload. Who isn’t? There are scores of minor-league players better than Gload. The only people who don’t realize this are DMGM (who entered the Baird Zone with the Gload extension) , Trey Hillman, Joel42, and perhaps some members of the Gload family.

The issue is that the Royals already have two 1B/DHs who are better than Gload at the league minimum — Butler and Shealy. Shealy is better than Gload defensively, as well. Jacobs projects as even worse than Butler. And that’s not even counting Kila. Or the ~$3.5 the Royals will pay in arbitration for a platoon DH.

I just can't get over the fact

that the Royals rip on Butler’s defense, hardly let him see the light of day, then go out of their way to trade for the one guy in the majors who might be worse than Butler with the glove, with DMGM publicly saying that Jacobs will see a lot of time at first.

dayton's really starting to look like a guy who's a very good assistant gm....

/scouting director…you cant argue with what he’s done to the minors…but most of his major mlb moves are questionable…hillman, guillen, soria in the pen, gload, aviles in AAA too long, resigning olivo, jacobs, etc

TPJ...you're dead to me
