Kaegel officially has lost it
Dick Kaegel at royals.com is getting further and further out there...now he's hinting that bringing back Odalis Perez wouldn't be the worst idea for KC and also suggesting that Khalil Greene to the Royals "does make a lot of sense...doesn't it?"
Uh, no, Dick.
What scares me is that he writes for the official club website...let's just hope that this isn't a case of "where there's smoke, there's fire"...

Believe it or not
Greene, despite his terrible year both offensively and defensively, isn’t that bad a player, I don’t think. He still projects as a league-average player. overall. I think a Greene/Aviles DP combo would be superior to Aviles/Callaspo. Still, he’s got one year to free agency and will be expensive in arb. Adding in the talent the Royals would have to give up in trade, its unlikely to be worth the trouble.

Any idea
Of what his numbers would look like away from Petco?

no
I just used the park-adjusted linear weights to figure stuff out.
As in the Matt Holliday situation, I think home/road splits for extreme environments are overused, a the park-factors figured into stats like WPA/LI, BtRns, and wOBA* are ignored as if they don’t exist. Morover, while Holliday and Greene’s numbers are better/worse at home, this also ignores the extablished fact that most players hit better at home (relative top park factor), all things considered, and that they adjust pretty quickly.
So, that aside, there’s Greene’s career splits:
Home: .225/.289/.369
Away: .270/.318/.484
His career line is .248/.304/.427.
“Neutralizing” them through b-r, they come out as .254/.311/.440.

That is Jacobs-esque
Which is much more acceptable with a decent fielding shortstop.

Tell that to Neifi.

with Park Factors in place
Neifi was always at least 3-4 wins below average in his Coors year.

I wouldn't take too much into this
He was asked those questions by fans and he is probably always looking for something a little off the wall to write about to draw readership in the off-season.
Like devil_fingers, I don’t think Greene would be awful, he is apparently good at defense, but it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice.

He would do wonders
For the KC restaurant economy. We cannot afford not to sign him.

RUNELVYZ NOW
From the sound of things, Burgos might be a good “fit” on this plan, too — Butler, Jacobs, Guillen…
Prediction:
JoPo’s Skyline Chili references in his blog take on very negative cast during the 2009 season.

Kaegel's baseball speculation is worthless
When he has a Royals source for his speculation, it is sometimes meaningful. When he’s just guessing about who might be a good fit, it’s worthless. Kaegel is a pretty poor baseball thinker.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
