SHOCKING NEWS: Neyer doesn't like the Crisp trade
I guess you could say this is less negative than he normally is about the Royals. That might be the equivalent of saying Jacobs is a better OBP guy than Guillen...

I'm here
Saw it earlier.
It just completely shocked me that he wrote this article. I jumped out of my seat in pure shock.

Dear god, the whole first paragraph is a mess
The Royals have made two moves this off-season. First they traded middle reliever Ramon Ramirez for first baseman Mike Jacobs. And now they’ve traded middle reliever Leo Nunez for outfielder Coco Crisp.

I appreciate that at least his analysis was deep, thoughtful and detailed
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

when he’s not writing about the Royals.

When Neyer likes something the Royals did or ever do someone wake me.
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.

You will not reawaken, Rip Van Winkle
Unless liking the addition of a senior advisor to the GM counts.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

If Gil Meche pitches like a #3
Than this will be a good deal.

that is what he and Rany agreed on R&R on the Royals back when he was signed
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

did they pinky swear?
Huh… the funny thing is, while I think the Meche deal has been great so far, I’m not sure I’d agree that if Meche was #3 it was a good deal… A #3 is about league average, right? Because according to tRA and Rany and Rob, Jeremy Guthrie is a 5/55 pitcher (adjusted for inflation) at the moment…
But hey, maybe he is!

My thought
If he were a #3 over each year of the contract, or on average over the course of the contract, I think that’s worth $11M per year because $11M is worth less with each passing year. Certainly if he were an above average #3.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

"Jacobs and Crisp might push the Royals from 75 wins to 77 or 78 wins."
= “These moves make the team better.”
It’s too bad DM didn’t trade Nunez for Pujols. Because Pujols is better than Jacobs. Do you think Moore thought about that?

Yah, and we would not even have to kidnap him across state lines.
Go Royals!

To be fair to Neyer (which I don't think he deserves)
I think what he was saying is that a team in the Royals position would be better suited acquiring a player who might project to be worse than Jacobs or Crisp in 2009, but who has the potential to be a lot better (a riskier, higher upside acquisition). And/or a player who is likely to have a higher upside but maybe to realize that in 2010 or beyond.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Ok, so all we have to do now is to..
Trade Crisp for Felix Pie, Ronny Cedeno, and Mike Fontenot. That would make him eat some crow.
Go Royals!

Question
Does Neyer like ANYTHING?
When has he ever said anything positive about anyone, anywhere?
He’s always criticizing. Rob Neyer needs a chill pill.
