Royals Prospect Update
Now that the American winter leagues are complete we at www.royalsprospects.com thought it would be interesting to take an in-depth look at each position in the Royals farm system. Starting today, we will lay out who we perceive to be the top prospects at the catching position are beginning with the #5 prospect, Jeff Howell. Throughout the next couple of months, we’ll go through the top five prospects at each position around the diamond as well as relief pitchers and starting pitchers.
Come check us out where you can also read recaps on the players that took part in the Arizona Fall League and Hawaii Winter League, plus starting this Saturday we will go over all of the other winter league action in the Caribbean.

If someone has a contact at Baseball America
Would it be possible to rename Best Strike-Zone Discipline to

Cortes
The local paper is once again reporting, through a Naturals official (in marketing?!), that Cortes is likely to start the season with the Naturals.

there are a few other interesting nuggets in that article
…including that the plan is indeed to move Moose Tacos to the outfield (hopefully to RF). I’m also guessing that Moose Tacos spends all year in high A ball, anything else would most likely be rushing him.
I don’t think starting Cortes in AA ball this year is the end of the world. Based on the quotes in the article, it sounds like if he dominates for the first month or so, he’ll get promoted to Omaha pretty quickly. Either way, though, he won’t be an MLB regular until at least 2010.

the outfield comment is obviously wrong
they’re going to keep him at 3B until they are forced to move him (meaning, Gordon doesn’t fall off the deep end defensively). also, i still guess i have a different view on what the meaning of “rush” is. Nunez…rushed. Burgos…rushed. it means someone is promoted even though they are clearly not ready. if Moustakas kills the ball (something like half #2 of this year) for three months, moving him to NWA is not rushing him. you promote a player if they show they can handle a level, don’t impede their development by keeping them at a level you know they have mastered.

Oh, and I think it is hilariously optimistic...
that BA apparently thinks that Moustakas could be suiting up for the Royals at some point in 2010. Best case scenario, Moose spends most/all of 2009 in high A ball and continues to hit the tar off the ball in 2010 in Arkansas to earn himself a cup of coffee in September. Most likely, I don’t think we’ll see Moose in the bigs until 2011. Moore seems pretty intent on avoiding the Baird mistake of rushing prospects.

(from a moderator at this site) If you are going to post something that is essentially a link to your site without other significant content, please do so in a fanshot, not a fanpost. We encourage posts which are links to other interesting things, including other Royals fan sites, but the fanshot area is more appropriate. Thanks
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
