Royals interested in Taveras?
According to MLBTR... "Taveras is also under team control through 2010. Ringolsby says the Royals, Yankees, White Sox, and Braves are in on him, while Renck adds the Nationals."...ready, set, react!

Just a rumor. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Which Taveras???
Julian or Willie? I think neither of them is someone we should be targeting but I’d rather have Willie than Julain…
might be Bob. (is there are Bob Taveras?)

i think Joey would be insurance to him....

DM and offense
Remember the ice hockey game on Nintendo? You could make your team up of fat strong guys, skinny fast guys or medium guys. It seems like Dayton is trying to mix up a team of fat strong guys and skinny fast guys. He’s looking for guys who suck, but do one thing really well whether it be speed (Gathright), defense (Pena, Gload), hitting home runs (Jacobs), RBI (Guillen), or making contact (Callaspo).
I kinda wish he’d look for more well rounded players.
Maybe we need a co-GM. Dayton, you can find all the pitchers, we’ll have someone else look for hitters.

well rounded players cost much more.
He’s hoping one or two of those guys turn into well rounded players. Or at least do their job to help us win until we can seriously acquire those well rounded guys.

I'm waiting for one or two of these guys turn out to be above replacement level
on a regular basis. As it turns out, TPJ and Gathrights 2007 seasons were the best any of these guys have done so far. Jacobs was below replacement level in 2008. So were Guillen, Gathright, Gload, and TPJ. Callaspo was right around there (his hitting was good, defense was awful. Hopefully that’s just a slump).
I think all the stereotypes about Braves, tools, speed, etc. have fallen away, we’re just down to these two:
DMGM’s PItchers: Good
DMGM’s position players: Replacement level

By the way
I loved playing with the fast skinny guys !!!

UGH...i hope this isn't true
KC already has Taveras…his name is Joey Gathright. Joey actually had a higher OBP.
Dayton PLEASE DON’T
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
I just have to assume it's another "absolute lie"
I can make sense of the Jacobs deal… I mean, it still sucks ass, but I can see the perspective from which it helps.
Maybe Gobble (or other crappy relief pitcher) -for-Taveras makes sense… of course, Taveras is completely useless to the Royals, so not really…
Ryan Shealy may turn out the be the best position players DMGM has ever acquired. Period. There’s still time though.

Ned Colleti to the rescue!
Oh, wait, he already has Juan Pierre.
Yeah, but he already had Juan Pierre when he signed Andruw Jones!
I think the Dodgers are dangerously thin regarding replacement-level CFers

MLBTradeRumors
Also has his wild ass speculation as to where the Top 50 FA will land. He has us netting P Koji Uehara.
He also has Adam Dunn going to the Nats. If we were to be outbid by that loser franchise, I would be irate.
Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com
To be fair
the Nats are a loser franchise with substantial disposable income and a compulsive general manager.
Depends on how much they (over)pay
with the economy the way it is, the market may shift. But assuming past rates of inflation and value, I wouldn’t go any higher than, say, 3/36 or 4/42 for Dunn, and I think that’s probably a significant overpayment (although not nearly as bad as JoGui’s deal at the time it was signed).
Yeah, he’s a lot better than Guillen, but I think it’s a mistake to think, “Heck, we paid 3/36 for Jose Guillen, and Dunn’s worht more than him, so…” because that’s just compounding one mistake with another. That’s a bad series of moves for any franchise, but especially for one with KC’s budget issues.
Just for the sake of it, if Jose Guillen is really “worth” 3/36, what would Adam Dunn be worth? 5/100? 6/150?

Koji Uehara
whose this guy? He was on mlbtraderumors.com in the top 50 FA list.
Don't forget to send your broken maples to the US Forest Service.
33 yr old RHP
has started and closed in Japan. Seems decent if the money isn’t too high. The Angels tried to sign a few years back but he chose Japan. Looks like the Angels, Red Sox and a few others might be in on him so I wouldn’t want to get in a bidding war for an unproven guy.
Mike Jacobs you're 2009 AL MVP
Tim Dierkes analysis seems to be
“Royals pursued Kuroda; Trey managed in Japan.” I wouldn’t take a lot of stock in that yet. But I’d feel much better about investing a little bit of money in a Japanese reliever than a lot of money in a Japanese starters. The track record for relievers seems to be much better.

This is how I picture a conversation between royalsreview and DM about Taveras
RoyalsReview: So… you want to goon tour with a traveling freak showtrade for Willy Tavares.
DM: I don’t think I have a choice,MargeRoyalsReview.
RoyalsReview: Of course you have a choice.
DM: How do you figure?
RoyalsReview: You don’t have tojoin a freak showtrade for a crappy CF just because the opportunity came along.
DM: You know,MargeRR, in some ways, you and I are very different people.

I actually like Taveras..
Not only would he get Gator off the team but his defense is just as good and he is probably the biggest stolen base threat in the league.. i think the average was unlucky last year.. i watched a lot of games where he always smokes the ball right at an outfielder
ugh.
at least he'd put the ball in play and not just half swing at pitches and foul them into the dugout

Once again current options (MITCH) or near-free onces (Langerhans)
are far superior to another replacement-level schlub like Taveras.
Are there any Baird guys left to trade?
Butler, Gordon, Aviles.. .KILA! There we go.

I'm trying to figure out which imperfect players that does one thing well is next
Alex Cora? Great glove, can’t hit a lick.
Kevin Mench can mash lefties. That is all he can do.
Of course, the one imperfect player who is good at the things that help teams win – hit home runs and draw walks – Adam Dunn, will likely not be considered.

If this is true
If Dayton Really is pursuing Taveras, then I am not believing another word he says, ever. He harped about his desire for OBP, and so far has followed that up with Jacobs and Taveras?

The other option
is to think that he is being honest, he’s just too stupid to identify who is and who isn’t a good OBP bet

Maybe he thinks .300 is a good OBA
I mean, a .300 hitter is considered good, maybe he thinks that’s the benchmark for OBA too?
