1. Mike Moustakas, SS/3B, Kansas City

The #2 overall pick in 2007, Moustakas had very few 2007 at bats, but asserted himself nicely in 2008. After getting off to a slow start, he ended up hitting .272/.337/.468 in the Midwest League, which was a fairly tough offensive environment this year. Because he shared an infield with one of the best defensive third basemen in the minors, Moustakas played shortstop in high school. That will change as a pro, but it is uncertain whether he will play third base or right field. No matter where he plays, his bat will carry him to the bigs.

Poreda

I’m not sure he deserves top 10. Having him on the borderline is fair. I see him as a one-pitch pitcher who is destined for a major league bullpen at best.

I think he has a decent slider

Or so I’ve heard anyways.

Even if he can be another Matt Thornton, that’s pretty good. I don’t really see who I’d put above him at this point.

Yea, I don't get the hype with him.

Really?

He’s already everything that you want Derrick Robinson to be. Gap to Gap power, speed and obviously great hand eye coordination as evident to his .400 BA most the season. His size is smaller but with the power he does have already it will play.

I love the Twins future outfielders Hicks and Revere I don’t know the dimensions of their new ballpark but with those two out there they could get away with playing a defensive hack in right.

I can't wait until Revere's ready for the majors

At that point, Kubel will be 30, broken down, and OPSing about .750, yet the Twins will follow this procedure:

1) invite Revere to spring training

2) After Revere has one game where he makes an error, Manager for Life Rod Gardenhire will talk about Kubel’s “veteran presence” and “need to concentrate.”

3) Revere will not make the team out of spring training. As fourth outfielder, the Twins will bring in 36 year-old Jose Guillen (at 2/17) to platoon with Kubel.

4) Revere will continue to destroy AAA pitching

5) Guillen will be cut (although he will still get paid) after two months. Kubel, barely able to move in the outfield, will now get full time starts in the field, both against RHP and LHP.

6) Kubel will get hurt, leading the Twins to reluctantly call up Revere, who is hitting .340/.420/.650 at AAA.

7) Revere will play sporadically, sharing time with recent signee Jason Tyner.

8) Revere will outplay Tyner, gradually winning time

9) Kubel will return, a platoon siguation with Revere will ensue, with Kubel still gettting ABs against LHPs occasionally. Gardenhire will praise Kubel’s “run production.”

10) The Twins lose their wildcard spot to the Royals the last series of the season. Kubel will get 2 RBIs on sac flies in the series. Revere will get 3 steals, 2 homers, a couple doubles, and cover a lot of ground. However, in the crucial game, he won’t be able to leap high enough to get to a monster Alex Gordon home run to dead center. That will be what Gardenhire will comment on.

11) At season’s end, Revere will be one of the best defensively rated outfielders in the game, with a .370 wOBA. Kubel will be one of the worst, with a .340 wOBA. He will be slated to earn $8M the next season, while Revere will be at the minimum.

12) During the offseason, the Twins will publicly state that Revere will have a chance to compete with the “incumbent starter,” Jason Kubel.

13) Kubel will be traded in the offseason, clearing the way for Revere.

14) Rondell White will be brought in as competition for Revere.

Even if Robinson did break out

He probably would not make this list.

One year ago, literally every scout was saying what a HUGE reach Revere was. One good season isn’t going to change my mind. We’ll see what he does next year.

LaPorta

Do you see him ending up as a DH in the bigs? Can he play 1B passably?

Depends on what a team's threshold for 1B defense is

But if Mike Jacobs can play 1B in the majors, so can Matt LaPorta.

Oh yee of little faith

Jacobs will win the gold glove this year and we will all see that Dan Uggla was an achor that even Fred McGriff couldn’t carry at 1b.

I'm guessing he's an angry dude

don’t know anything about him, but I’m sure he had to absorb many a jr. high beating from his peers due to the name

I would have liked to see him do a bit more as a college 1B

Then again, an .880 OPS in the Carolina League is nothing to sneeze at.

He probably would have been in the 12-16 range on my list, but things start to get blurry at that point.
