You bought it, right?
I mean, you had to.
Royals, NBA, Golden Hurricane, Hawkeyes, Chiefs, and KU basketball, in that order.
Judging by the amount of dust on it...
I would think it would be pretty cheap.

Clearly somebody accidently left their hat in the store 3 years ago
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
i was thinking quite a bit longer than 3 years..
i mean it made absolutely no sense sitting where it was, on top of a display case of earrings:

hilarious. and no, i didn’t buy it. would rather have it be something to look for and check every time i go back; which is somewhat often, i live in SF.

You should "capture" it and take it with you...
on your travels, taking pictures of it in random, famous or notable places. Like the wandering garden gnome.
Actually, if/when TPJ is released, someone should do that with one of his bobbleheads.

you could probably
take pictures of the real TPJ in the many places (and uniforms) he is sure to stop in the next 3-7 years.
Don't Stop Believing!
i'll answer both questions..
Q: Did some tourist just leave it there?
A: Very likely, yes.
Q: Was it really for sale?
A: Also very likely, yes.
