Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

OT: Cool Reading in the Cold

I stumbled upon a really fascinating series over at From the Rink, a great SB Nation hockey blog: Where do NHLers come from?

Its a region by region breakdown, complete with lots of cool charts. For example, in the 1950s, just over 1% of the NHL was from Atlantic Canada, a number which rose significantly in the 1960s.

I am not a NHL fan, I do not know the blogger at From the Rink, and I am not directing you to this blog because of some SBN directive. No, its just really interesting stuff, and if anything I wish these posts were longer. Once you read about, say, the rise of the Canadian Prairies, you'll want to see about New York, Alaska, etc etc.

If I knew how to do this for MLB I would. Well, maybe. Looks like a lot of work.

Hmm -

No NHL’ers from Kansas? I can think of one but I just forgot his name…he played for that Caps a few years back. Klemm? Something like that, it began with a K… Jeez, I’m a huge hockey fan – I should know this…

Canadian Prairies

I always thought Kansas was the only prairie in the world.

I also find this fascinating. The internet really is the best: even if only a few of us find this anonymous dude’s research compelling, he’s contributed a little to the happiness of mankind.

That’s right. Have a happy Christmas.

Drive up to Winnapeg

and you’ll see the Canadian prairie. Great little city btw and well worth the road trip. Just don’t do it this time of year…

and, not surpringly,

roughly the same ethnic composition as in Kansas.

In Canadia, the praries stretch from Manitoba to the Rockies

Bringing you more-or-less replacement level analysis and commentary since sometime in 2008.

Good stuff

You should have seen the look on my wife’s face when she asked what I was reading and I told her “the rise of the Atlantic Canadians in the NHL.” At this point, she thought this was my cover for surfing porn or something.

I'm about to change my username to DannyDuffyfan
