It all depends on what the Mariner’s are paying him. Russell the Muscle has never had a salary higher than $1.25M, though. He’s their new Ibanez, DH/1B style. If they have to dump him, it won’t cost much.

Anyway, I’m over it. Why sign Branyan for $1.25M (or whatever) when you can get a guy who’s younger, much worse (and that’s saying something when we’re talking about Russ Branyan) on defense, has almost as much power and none of the walks, and may him at least $3M? It’s a no-brainer.

The always-accurate Bill James Projections (all projections assume .338 lgwOBA):

Jacobs projected wOBA: .360, RV/700 = 11.7
Branyan: .359, 11.6

Marcels (my wOBA conversion, but Marcels assumes a lower lg. AVG — .332):

Jacobs: .332, 2.8
Branyan: .341, 5.7
