So indications are that, once again, Greinke is a name they'll at least talk about this week. But judging by the theoretical sticker price, it's obvious they have almost zero appetite for trading him. "Let me ask you something," said an official of one team. "Would you give up three major league pieces and two top, top prospects for him? Because that's what it would take."

Javy can be a throw-in

haha
in all seriousness though, that is the sort of package it sounds like it would take to pry zack. i would take that and run…just doesn’t seem like it is reasonable.
what about texas?

I think it’s safe to say Zack is staying.

I'd ask for Davis, over one of the pitchers
you know, because the Royals don’t have enough 1B/DH guys… I know people are mixed on him because of the Ks, but that is serious-ass power.
Apparently the Rangers have been lusting after Greinke for years, though. Should have tried to get him for Mench pre-2006.

yeah, Tampa could use another young stud in their rotation
I’m not sure how they’re going to prevent runs for the next 5 years

i don't think that deal rates even close to the other two
replace Perez with Desmond Jennings at Talbot with Sonnanstine and we might have something though

It's good that they are starting out with a big price tag
Let someone try to dicker them down from there.
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
+1
We neither need nor want to get rid of him. Ergo, a big price tag is what it’ll take. We should be as stubborn as we want with pitching talent. – TL
[In 2008] Kila Ka’aihue had the best on-base percentage of any hitter in the minor leagues. - Joe Posnanski, 11/9/2008 ... Ergo, let's give him a shot at first base in KC in 2009.
But why ask for billions
When you can ask for millions?

I'm never sure
whether that should make me sad because Mike Myers sucks now, or filled with schaudenfreude because I’ve secretly enjoyed his collapse.

I'm a believer that good teams put themselves in position to compete every year
Selling ready-now talent for future talent isn’t always the way to go. Even though our chances at a pennant in 2009 are slim, I think at some point, you have to say, “Hey, we feel like we’re a .500 team right now. We probably won’t make the playoffs, but if things break right, we could be in the picture. Either way, we’ll be putting a competitive product on the field and will build our fan base which will pay dividends in the future.” Having Greinke on the 2009 team is worth a lot to the franchise even if it doesn’t result in winning the division. For a lot of fans, he’s the reason you pay the price of admission every fifth game. I think it’s appropriate that they ask the world for him. The return in 2010 and beyond has to be damn good to make up for the loss in 2009.
On the other hand, good small market teams take rebuilding seriously
Tampa Bay, Oakland, Florida. My point is that there is more than one road to success. Small market teams can’t compete every year. Sometimes they have to rebuild. The smart ones do big fire sales, and re-build from scratch. Of course the Royals are far enough along in their rebuilding effort that they are adding pieces to get close to contention. But I wouldn’t say that good teams try to do whatever they can to contend every year. You can’t be in a win-now mode all the time (unless you are the NYY, NYM, BOS, LAA, LAD, CHC).
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Teams keep checking in on Greinke. And the Royals never quite get around to saying “nope,” “no way” or “absolutely not,” even though they really, really don’t want to move him. So indications are that, once again, Greinke is a name they’ll at least talk about this week. But judging by the theoretical sticker price, it’s obvious they have almost zero appetite for trading him. “Let me ask you something,” said an official of one team. “Would you give up three major league pieces and two top, top prospects for him? Because that’s what it would take.” The fact is, the Royals have higher expectations than ever and so little to build those aspirations around that they have to hold on to Greinke. And, oh-by-the-way, there’s not even any indication they want to deal David DeJesus or Mark Teahen, either. So who’s the most available Royal by far? Jose Guillen.

isn't that from his first press conference after he signed
that has to be the only picture from that period where he looks over 14 years old
It’s nice that he’s finally hit puberty and No. 1-hood at the same time.
By the time he’s Jamie Moyer’s age, he’ll look like he’s in his prime

i think that was the interview
In the spring of 2007. Remember the one where he said he would answer any question about his depression problem that day, but then would never talk about it again in the public? I think that was it.
