Heckling Jason LaRue

I live in Springfield, Missouri and will be attending two exhibition games this weekend featuring the St. Louis Cardinals vs. the Springfield Cardinals (AA affiliate).  It just occurred to me this morning that I may get to see future Hall of Famer Jason LaRue play this weekend.  After calming the rage inside, I began to ponder the following question...

If you could heckle Jason LaRue tonight, what would you say?

Hey Larue,
Thanks for keeping John Buck from becoming to expensive for the Royals to hold on to.

seriously, what can you say that he dosen't already know?  .146 is bad?  you're an offensive nightmare?  you're not really that effective on defense?  i think i'd probably just go for "hey lapoo" everytime i could.

The first thing I know about someone in a KC hat is that they're loyal.

With a career like his
very little heckling is needed...he likely has enough trouble sleeping at night at it is.
I'd rather be watching baseball.

Heckling Jason LaRue
Is like calling double-dribble on the retarded kid. I mean, the fact they put his batting average on the scoreboard is heckling enough.

I'd say:
"You've had a decent career and then you had a bad season very much out of line with the rest of your career!"

Hmmm, on second thought, I think I wouldn't say anything.

I probably disagree with you.

It was TWO bad seasons!
I'd yell "your 86 career OPS+ is 14 percent below the league average! You are pathetic!"

That would surely get him.

Career OPS+ of 86
...is at or maybe a little above average for a catcher.

"You've been an average catcher!" doesn't really make for a good heckle.  I know a lot of this is tongue-in-cheek, but it seems like a lot of Royals fans think Larue is one of the worst players in baseball history.  In reality, he had a horrible, awful season last year, but he's had a decent major league career as a catcher.  Unfortunately, heckling doesn't really allow for nuanced analysis.

I probably disagree with you.

I find it wholly contradictory...
...that when Huber (or Sweeney) departs K.C., the attitude is "He's a nice guy, I wish him all the best, and I hope he succeeds elsewhere".  Whereas with players like Emil Brown, Odie Perez, Scott Elarton, and Jason LaRue, it's "don't let the door hit you on the way out, you scumbag destroyer of our innocence", or something along those lines.

Don't insult a player's manhood over one or more bad seasons, explained by nothing more than a lack of baseball ability.  Good Lord.

Don't hate the pla - ah...
Hate the management that played these bad players (repeatedly) and took time away from other players who were doing much better at the time.
BELIEVE!! 162 WINS IN '08!!

I agree with you.
The only former Royals I can remember hating is Juan González. I only dislike him because I don't think he ever tried to come back from his back injury. I only dislike player that don't play hard or are just in it for money. I hope all the above players have future success.

LaPoo Was The
Hardest working .140 hitter in the bigs, hands down.
I'm not getting older....oh, wait, yes I am....and slower.... and weaker. God, this is great!

i didn't jump on the sweeney lovetrain
but i see your point.  i think my frustration comes from watching the same bad idea happen over and over again.  we should have sent him to the chukars in june.

Miguel Olivo's Career OPS+: 76
For C in 2007, mean OPS+ was 86, and median OPS+ was 83.
