Spring Training Game 5 Open Thread

The battle for 4th place resumes!

The Royals battle those evil ChiSox this afternoon, first pitch at 2:05 CST.

Why didn't someone tell me Ken Huckaby was in camp? Didn't he nearly kill Derek Jeter once in a collision at third base?

ps- be sure to check out the info on RR Fest

i don't know... it keeps getting pushed back
when they redid Athletics Nation they discovered there were still a lot of bugs and technical issues to be cleaned up

i think the switch will be probably two months from now... personally, i dont mind, i like the way things are (aside from non-auto-updating comments)

Harrelson Being Interviewed
Just now, talking about what a great place KC is for a ballplayer; I think he's right. He was on the A's team that would move to Oakland and conquer the the world, but Finley shipped him to Boston fo their WS run in '67. He wasn't that good, but he was lucky.

German's not really making a case for being on the team this year.  That really disappoints me because I've liked him the previous two.

I was laughing at the same thing
But I realize that lineups mean nothing in ST, considering trying to protect someone in the lineup or hitting someone leadoff doesn't work as the pitchers are going to pitch to everybody. But yes, kind of comical.

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I really really think he is a good option at the back end of the rotation. He can be like Odie from last year except when he goes 5 innings he wont give up 4 or 5 or 6 or a bunch of runs every time.

I started to get excited about Bale's line,
until I remembered it's ST.

No facts or data to back this up (sorry, NY) - but my gut feeling tells me Bale would be better than either Tomko or any of the other 4-5 rotation candidates.

Call it "scouting", if you like, but I've watched baseball in person for literally thousands of games, and I think he has what it takes to post an ERA of around 4 or 4.25 as a starter.

by loyal2s dad on Mar 3, 2008 4:04 PM EST reply actions

He seems to have the stuff to strike people out and keep other teams off balance. It will be interesting to see whether he has the stamina to pitch 7 innings.
