Game 1 Open Thread- Royals (0-0) at Tigers (0-0)
Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers, Mar 31, 2008 1:05 PM EDT
The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms and wind in Detroit today. The good news is that there is also the possibility of a window during the middle of the afternoon in which this game could be played.
I know you're stunned by this, as Major League Baseball should be. The weather in Detroit is usually perfect on March 31st.
As we don't pray for rain, check out Royals Authority's post on everyone's 2008 predictions. Looks like 79 wins is pretty popular. If you haven't already entered our season prediction contest here at RR, you've still got a few hours to do so. The winner will get a RR t-shirt.

Royals Review predictions
Sometime before gametime, I'm going to be posting a breakdown of the predictions from Royals Review posters. Average win total, how many votes for each player, etc.
I probably disagree with you.

I hate that I cannot be part of the game thread
I'll be on campus working until 5ish today. I'll just have to tape the game and watch it tonight. Cheer on the boys! Greatness starts today!
I Hate That
I can't really watch the game because of the cave man DSL connection we have at work (tests at 246K on the MLB media player). As to today's weather, I'll repost this:

I kinda miss

And there are some shortcuts
You can hit "C" on your keyboard to go from new post to new post. And if you hit "Z" it unmarks the last new post you read before sending you to the next one. It's a great way to see all the new posts in a thread.

Yes, but he was converted from shortstop
He has rated surprisingly well as a CF in limited action as a major leaguer. He should be adequate out there.

He has good range for a 3B
I really don't think he has good OF range. He simply isn't that fast. And he's got to be pretty rusty on reading fly balls to the OF.

I'm kind of on the hook for this game...
But my Cards fan buddy was pissing me off, and he made me say some crazy things.
Also, Zack Grienke needs to be as good as Johan this year. I should've had some agreed upon stats that are not ERA or wins.
Looks like the game should start on time
if the radar is correct, but I'd say we'll have an interuption in about the 4th or 5th inning.
Does the fact that they're tearing
down Yankee Stadium make anyone hate the Yankees even more? It does me.

Danny Clinkscale says they're having good weather in Detroit. Cloudy, but no rain expected, and temps should reach 60.

Does anyone else notice?
That Gordon hasn't exactly inspired at the plate this spring (& today). He just waived at that fastball right down the middle and missed. It looks like he took the eye off the ball early, while he was lunging toward right field.
This isn't what I want for the next 15 years from our possible franchise face. (Yes, I said 15 years).
No way.
This isn't gut reaction. I'm not concernedat all at this point. I hope Barnett (or Hillman?) can fix what's wrong, because it appears something /is/ wrong.

Seriously?
Don't Stop Believing!

i would prefer a little younger, but I guess you have to pay your dues or some such cliche to get the respect.

Like Sheffield?
Are you crazy? That guy's Jerk #1. He's a whiner. He's also a suspected PED guy. So, I'll take what we have, thank you very much. - TL
you mean, a semi-provenPED user who is jerk #1 also (Guillen)?
and many former players who were users? and i'm sure all of our players are Mike Sweeney 's. I don't care about all that. I want a guy who will take 31 pitches in one game.
Don't Stop Believing!
Nunez
Looks really good. He reminds me of how Soria looked last year. Great command, good movement, good velocity.
He also looks older.
The umpire has been terrible with Sheff. He bitches and moans and they cave in to him. A couple of those called balls were strikes.

Get Questec now. The disparity between Gordon's strike zone and Sheffield's strike zone is ridiculous.
