Game 1 Open Thread- Royals (0-0) at Tigers (0-0)

Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers, Mar 31, 2008 1:05 PM EDT

The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms and wind in Detroit today. The good news is that there is also the possibility of a window during the middle of the afternoon in which this game could be played.

I know you're stunned by this, as Major League Baseball should be. The weather in Detroit is usually perfect on March 31st.

As we don't pray for rain, check out Royals Authority's post on everyone's 2008 predictions. Looks like 79 wins is pretty popular. If you haven't already entered our season prediction contest here at RR, you've still got a few hours to do so. The winner will get a RR t-shirt.

Royals Review predictions

Sometime before gametime, I'm going to be posting a breakdown of the predictions from Royals Review posters. Average win total, how many votes for each player, etc.

I probably disagree with you.

I hate that I cannot be part of the game thread

I'll be on campus working until 5ish today. I'll just have to tape the game and watch it tonight. Cheer on the boys! Greatness starts today!

I Hate That

I can't really watch the game because of the cave man DSL connection we have at work (tests at 246K on the MLB media player). As to today's weather, I'll repost this:

My prediction for today's game

Detroit--8 hits, 2 runs, 2 HR, 1 error. Verlander 7 Ks, 4 Ws, 7 innings. O sac. bunts.
Royals--5 hits, 3 runs, 1 HR, 0 errors. Meche 10 Ks, 2 Ws, 6 2/3 innings, Soria Save. 3 sac. bunts.

Royals W!

I kinda miss

seeing the word "new" next to posts...Am I not seeing something? Is there some way to tell, or do I have to read through the whole entire thing every time ?

And there are some shortcuts

You can hit "C" on your keyboard to go from new post to new post. And if you hit "Z" it unmarks the last new post you read before sending you to the next one. It's a great way to see all the new posts in a thread.

I probably disagree with you.

by marbotty on Mar 31, 2008 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, but he was converted from shortstop

He has rated surprisingly well as a CF in limited action as a major leaguer. He should be adequate out there.

by Gopherballs on Mar 31, 2008 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He has good range for a 3B

I really don't think he has good OF range. He simply isn't that fast. And he's got to be pretty rusty on reading fly balls to the OF.

I probably disagree with you.

I'm kind of on the hook for this game...

But my Cards fan buddy was pissing me off, and he made me say some crazy things.

Also, Zack Grienke needs to be as good as Johan this year. I should've had some agreed upon stats that are not ERA or wins.

by Bornin85 on Mar 31, 2008 12:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Looks like the game should start on time

if the radar is correct, but I'd say we'll have an interuption in about the 4th or 5th inning.

I follow baseball pretty damn closely, but every year there are a few guys that make Opening Day rosters that I have never ever heard of.

Detroit outfielder Clete Thomas is one such person.

FSN KC

There is definitely something wrong with their production. The camera doesn't bounce up and down, the tape doesn't skip, the screen doesn't go black, the picture is actually clear - I don't like it one bit. Give me back my low production value of RSTN!

That Gordon hasn't exactly inspired at the plate this spring (& today). He just waived at that fastball right down the middle and missed. It looks like he took the eye off the ball early, while he was lunging toward right field.

i believe it was Rany

who indicated that Gordon's homeruns were the longest in the league on average, ahead of Prince Fielder. Good stuff, that.

BTW this is how my browser's been acting all night -- and the reason I was questioning turning off comments --- i guess being far away sort of acts as an early warning stress test

That the Royals post-game show is sponsored by Boulevard Beer.

I got to tour their brewery a few weeks ago. Mighty tasty samples.

Just your sobriety

It is free, with time to sample some of their products at the end. But you have to make a reservation.

My dad is doing the Brew-to-Brew run this Sunday where they run from Boulevard Brewery on SW Blvd to Free State Brewery in Lawrence.
