Opening Day Extra Innings Overflow Thread
Over 1,000 comments, huh? Talk about setting the tone for the next 161 games. Now lets get a win and move into first place.
[Note by royalsreview, 03/31/08 4:48 PM EDT ]
And now, you can consider this your postgame celebration thread as well. Trey-mendous work by the bullpen, including our man Tomko.
I'm amazed. Well done everyone.
Seriously though, I think we may have crashed the network if we had kept the original thread going. Post new comments here.

Last year I routinely...
...saw threads go over 1000 for Cubs games. Do we really need to set up an overflow? ...Of course I'm happy about the buzz and all. - TL

Accidentally not thedude925 anymore. I do hate this new name.
Wow
AWESOME. I come home from the library and get surprise Royals coverage on ESPN and surprise extra innings.
The Tigers have a strange affinity
for picking up Royals cast-offs and throwing them into the bullpen - Bautista, Durbin, Byrdak, Jamie Walker

You've probably been...
...waiting all game to post the "I-don't-agree-with-that-sacrifice" comment by virtue of our manager's love of the said. Am I right?! ;) - TL
Ross Gload
is the player of the day. Sucessful bunt AND successful hit and run. so much grit
True. Blue. Third Place in 2008.
Slo mo again
I we going to have to watch every play, scratch, and itch in slo mo this year?
dumb to bunt with Gload when you know TPJ
is coming to end the inning
This space intentionally left blank.
I mean, no offense to FOX
but there's no way that Bautista hit 101 mph last inning
True. Blue. Third Place in 2008.
i mean
he's not gonna walk, right?

PS
I think we need overflow before 1000. That page killed my browser. Did that happen to anyone else, or is my computer just old?
if gathright gets a hit
that will leave Guillen as the biggest drag on the offense
This space intentionally left blank.
His cannon arm
Makes up for it, though.

i gotta say: bautista looked good
why'd we get rid of him again?
and he's injury prone.

That's funny
I think if I need a good pitching performance, I'm picking up whoever is pitching against the Giants.

This morning
someone on 810 said 2-4 coming home would be good, I think we can come home 3-3. That would rock.
i was starting to comment the same thing.
Hwo incredible will that be for the team!???!? Instead of starting in a huge hole...
Don't Stop Believing!
I like
Banny vs Rogers and Grienke vs Bonderman gives us a chance...
This gives me a great feeling about the year
I know it's just one game, but it feels nice to beat a team like this.
Coming Back On
Verlander is no mean feat.

I keep expecting the post game to be over
It keeps going, this is like extra Christmas morning...
You've got to love these Kansas City Royals
Some decent hitting against good pitching. Our pitching contained a tremendous offense. This was an ultra-gritty performance. hard not to be happy with this one.
Tomko!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
I probably disagree with you.
Thumbs up to
Fox Sports Kansas City... big fan... And the game thread was awesome... Great way to start the Hillman Era.. Soak it all in gentlemen (and lady)...
For the record...
there was more than one lady royal fan who spent her afternoon reading this amazing thread about this amazing game instead of working.
First place, baby!
Enjoy the view, Royals...much nicer than a cellar, isn't it? Treasure it...try to keep it...

Zito still sucks
3 runs in the first inning. Another in the second. Nice contrast to our 11Ks.
By the way, Royals were the first team to win on Opening Day.
You are absolutely right
They showed some talent and...really...some true grit. Facing one of the best SP's in baseball and one of the best offenses in baseball, the Royals hung in there and kept plugging away, and came out on top. I really like our pitching and I think we have just enough offense to win half our games. Maybe more. The optimism meter is rising.
I probably disagree with you.
by Scott McKinney on Mar 31, 2008 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions
i agree man
it will be interesting to see how the boys do on wednesday with banny startin. im less optimistic with him, but i feel better this year than the last three years with the rotation. If the boys can get into the bullpen early again good things will happen.
I agree several players showed some true grit, and hillman ball=awesome
its going to be a good and exciting year
oh gawd
Guillen went 0-for-5.
Fukudome went 3-for-3 wit the game tying home run in the 9th.
Obviously Fuku > Guillen.
;-)
Rowdy Hardy Fan Club member.
This is completely expected
Fukudome will hit huge homeruns every day. He will never not hit a huge homerun. Everyone knew this would happen, except Dayton Moore.
PS - I am kinda a Fukudome fan and a bit cool towards Guillen.
Big home runs
I don't think any of his home runs will stay in the park this year. No souvenirs for Cubs fans. They're all going onto the street. He might hit one or two into Lake Michigan.
I probably disagree with you.
by Scott McKinney on Mar 31, 2008 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Lake Michigan, hell,
He will hit them into Canada every at bat. They will have to paint his baseballs orange so they can be found in arctic snows!
by James Quinn on Mar 31, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
The Cubs made a major miscalculation
They didn't account for all of the extra balls they'd have to buy because of Fukudome's home runs. That's going to push his true cost up really, really high. That could cripple the organization for years to come.
I probably disagree with you.
by Scott McKinney on Mar 31, 2008 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions
I'd give Fukudome the MVP right now
He might be the best player in the history of the game. The Royals have to DFA Guillen right now. He's a lead weight, dragging this team down.
I probably disagree with you.
White Sox update
They completely **** their pants today. Buehrle impodes in the second, giving up 7 ER and not getting out of the inning. After a brief comeback, Dotel gives up 3 hits, 2 walks and 3 ER in the 8th to take the loss. Man, they are awful. It was fun to watch the last half of that game.
I probably disagree with you.
Hey, Tribe fan here.....just wanted to pass my appreciation
for that sweet beatdown you gave the Tigers; hope to see you guys take a step forward this year.
Loving the possible production you will get out of Butler/Gordon/Teahen.
God truly does hate cleveland sports.
And thanks for embarrassing the White Sox
I think we'll take a step forward this year. I don't know if we'll be contending in 2009 (we may very well be), but you won't be looking forward to playing us. Should be some good games.
I probably disagree with you.
by Scott McKinney on Mar 31, 2008 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions
wow. awesome, awesome stuff.
i didnt see a single pitch of this one, was in school throughout, but awesome that we beat the detroit tigers in detroit.
i cant really believe it, actually. plus, it went into extras....
i have a feeling that this season is going to be a fun one, probably the most fun season of all time of a (most likely) non-contending team, at least in a true-fun sorta way, not a life-at-the-team fun sorta way that the past couple of season (pre 07) have been.
Call me Crazy but,
i see the royals finishing 3rd and possibly 2nd.. if all goes perfect. wildcard here we come!!! im just not a fan of that shitty bullpen in detroit.. ive heard it a thousand times and so have you, you can do good with a shitty bullpen. and plus im not real sold on that rotation. verlander will be good, cy young good. but rogers will suck he is too old and robertson sucks and bonderman is incosistant - one year he is good then the next he blows. and dontrelle is just a huge question mark
I love life. Life = Royals
Hey all
Great win for the Royals today. I'm still feeling under the weather (is anyone ever 'over the weather'?) but I should hopefully be back fully soon.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places/
Get well soon
You need to come back and catch some Royals Fever!
I probably disagree with you.

Obligatory postgame positivity
Folks, quite simply, today was a winner. Coat this town in Royal Blue! And a win is a win and a win calls for celebration.
Temporarily....oh, but just temporarily....all is right with the universe!
Cheers!
I missed the 10th and 11th innings (had to go to a meeting) but . . .
GREAT JOB ROYALS!!! Keep up the good work!
I just finished watching the game on tape.
Wow, what a huge win. What a great game. And I was so glad to log on here and see this ridiculously large game thread! This will be a great year.
OK, she arrives late, but we've all missed her:
Isn't it nice to lose on opening day in front of your fans? Stupid kittens. Stupid loser kittens. Get used to it. Slugger is your daddy this year.
