Game 15 Overflow Thread

Strange game, but in the 7th the Royals cling to a 3-2 lead. The Royals have 11 hits, a walk, and two steals, but only three runs. Being singles-based will do that.

i really love teahen's patience...

a big pop from butler would be pretty huge right now.

Indisputable assertion:

Teahen is the best batter on the team.

I agree.

Would still rather have him hitting second, with billy third.

i have a man-crush

on Teahen. Someone was bashing him the other day (maybe multiple people), but I think he’s pretty solid overall.

unfortunately

he’s going to HAVE to go through our royals to get one. He’s gonna have to pry the bats out of our cold dead hands…

Why joey???

Was there supposed to be a hit and run there?

by RoyalsFanInBillings on Apr 17, 2008 12:21 AM EDT   0 recs

Did not need that base.

by 2X2L on Apr 17, 2008 12:21 AM EDT   0 recs

dont really understand the steal there...

considering he would have scored from second anyways.

dont mind the green light for gator and i dont really even mind him trying to steal, just dont understand the timing.

by rockchalk on Apr 17, 2008 12:21 AM EDT   0 recs

That's what I was gonna say

play for the 1 run on the sac fly, not a bad idea with Billy at the plate

he woulda had the base stolen

definitely one.

unproductive out

somehow, when these things work, we hear about it for minutes and minutes

but when they dont, everyone just moves on

by royalsreview on Apr 17, 2008 12:22 AM EDT   0 recs

i agree

i was griping to a buddy about all of the runs we’ve left on the basepath this year.

Don't Stop Believing!

by KC Chris on Apr 17, 2008 12:23 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

But, with a team without power

running a speedster like Joey isn’t really a bad move.

by royaldaddy on Apr 17, 2008 12:24 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, that time it seemed a little dumb

but usually, I’m with them on the steal attempts.

by royaldaddy on Apr 17, 2008 12:26 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

taking second was a good idea.

Taking third was a bad one. Too much risk involved, if he’s caught, then a k ends the chance for a rally.

This is still a learning process for Joey, so I’m ok with him figuring things out, and he’s going to caught some of the time…but he has to be smarter and recognize the whole situation if he’s going to have a green light like he’s been given.

Gator Might Have

Beat the tag, but the throw was there. I haven’t seen a reverse angle.

Let's go, boys, to the toppermost of the poppermost!

by philofthenorth on Apr 17, 2008 12:23 AM EDT   0 recs

And for what it's worth

I think it was a tie at third, which should go to the runner. But the camera angle I saw blocked the base so I can’t be positive about that.

by MileHighKCfan on Apr 17, 2008 12:23 AM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, I thought he had the foot on the bag before the tag came down, but you just don’t want to leave that out up to the umpire.

by 2X2L on Apr 17, 2008 12:24 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No ties in baseball.

No such thing as a tie to a base. In the rulebook, at any rate.

by mazoboom on Apr 17, 2008 12:25 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

nuh-uh.

tie does not, technically, go to the runner.

according to the rule book, the ump has to decide whether he the runner is safe or out, no ties.

by rockchalk on Apr 17, 2008 12:26 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh, believe me

I know the rules, still play the game. But as an unwritten rule, the runner gets the advantage on a tie. A good majority of the time in my experience.

Analysis time

That’s like the 5th time this season I’ve seen a hitter swing at a pitch Ramirez didn’t even get to the plate. Ideas as to what he’s doing to cause that?

It crossed the plate above the belt, and unfortunately that’s not usually called on a breaking pitch these days. Watching vintage TV baseball broadcasts is really interesting, because the strike zone seems so much bigger.

by 2X2L on Apr 17, 2008 12:37 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I just with

they would call the textbook strike zone more often, that includes the high strike. Isn’t it SUPPOSED to be the letters?
