Game 15 Overflow Thread
Strange game, but in the 7th the Royals cling to a 3-2 lead. The Royals have 11 hits, a walk, and two steals, but only three runs. Being singles-based will do that.

dont really understand the steal there...
considering he would have scored from second anyways.
dont mind the green light for gator and i dont really even mind him trying to steal, just dont understand the timing.
That's what I was gonna say
play for the 1 run on the sac fly, not a bad idea with Billy at the plate

taking second was a good idea.
Taking third was a bad one. Too much risk involved, if he’s caught, then a k ends the chance for a rally.
This is still a learning process for Joey, so I’m ok with him figuring things out, and he’s going to caught some of the time…but he has to be smarter and recognize the whole situation if he’s going to have a green light like he’s been given.

And for what it's worth
I think it was a tie at third, which should go to the runner. But the camera angle I saw blocked the base so I can’t be positive about that.

nuh-uh.
tie does not, technically, go to the runner.
according to the rule book, the ump has to decide whether he the runner is safe or out, no ties.
Oh, believe me
I know the rules, still play the game. But as an unwritten rule, the runner gets the advantage on a tie. A good majority of the time in my experience.

It crossed the plate above the belt, and unfortunately that’s not usually called on a breaking pitch these days. Watching vintage TV baseball broadcasts is really interesting, because the strike zone seems so much bigger.
I just with
they would call the textbook strike zone more often, that includes the high strike. Isn’t it SUPPOSED to be the letters?

Finally found it at CBS Sportsline. 10th in AL, 20th in MLB. You’ve got to have a lot of baserunners to leave a lot of them on.
Royals batters really have to learn to keep their heads
especially in high-pressure situations.

have to go Callaspo over Esty
for defense.
Don't Stop Believing!
i think the idea is that pena's defense
is more important in the upcoming innings than any offense he provides here.
Then you start Callespo
and bring in Pena as a defensive replacement in a close game. That way, TPJ’s lack of offense doesn’t kill you early in the game.

As much as I want to like Hillman...
...and believe me, I do….he’s Buddy-like in a few regards. Of course, I don’t think his hook is as slow, and he doesn’t have that veteran bias, but in just a few minor regards, I see a vague similarity. Maybe it’s just me…
by Royals Nation on Apr 17, 2008 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions
all MLB managers
are “vaguely similar”.
most managers make the same kind of stuff, and i would bet that most managers leave TPJ in to bat in that same scenario…

Don't Stop Believing!
At least for every 0-fer apperance by Pena...
...it brings Hillman and the Royals closer to giving Pena the true axe from the starting lineup. At least I hope.
I kinda doubt it for some reason.
I think Hillman figures we aren’t going to score that many runs anyway, so we need all the defense we can get, and damn the offensive consquences.

So, then, we traded Buckner
...for a bench player. At least for this season. And Buckner, the last I checked, is getting knocked around in Tucson, but…..we’re wasting away the pre-arbitration/pre-FA years of a .280/.320/400-hitting, minimum-wage making 2B.
