Game 15 Overflow Thread

Strange game, but in the 7th the Royals cling to a 3-2 lead. The Royals have 11 hits, a walk, and two steals, but only three runs. Being singles-based will do that.

But, with a team without power

running a speedster like Joey isn’t really a bad move.

by royaldaddy on Apr 17, 2008 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

taking second was a good idea.

Taking third was a bad one. Too much risk involved, if he’s caught, then a k ends the chance for a rally.

This is still a learning process for Joey, so I’m ok with him figuring things out, and he’s going to caught some of the time…but he has to be smarter and recognize the whole situation if he’s going to have a green light like he’s been given.

I think it was a tie at third, which should go to the runner. But the camera angle I saw blocked the base so I can’t be positive about that.

tie does not, technically, go to the runner.

It crossed the plate above the belt, and unfortunately that’s not usually called on a breaking pitch these days. Watching vintage TV baseball broadcasts is really interesting, because the strike zone seems so much bigger.

I just with

they would call the textbook strike zone more often, that includes the high strike. Isn’t it SUPPOSED to be the letters?

Even though it shoulda been an offensive explosion

with three hits. A win is a win. Did everyone else hear the crowd go “Awww” when Teahen barely missed the HR? I wouldn’t think there’d be many Royals fans in Anaheim. Did they just want to see a homer?

maybe there’s a few fans

The only problem I see is his control. If he can improve that, he’ll be back to last year’s Meche, or thereabouts.

I love life. Life = Royals

by focs on Apr 17, 2008 1:28 AM EDT reply actions

the good news is that the offense will improve

...and of course the pitching will decline from this very lofty height. Hopefully it will level out and the Royals will keep winning by scoring some more runs even though we’ll be allowing some more runs.

I probably disagree with you.

by Scott McKinney on Apr 17, 2008 1:29 AM EDT up reply actions

The weather was cold in Detroit, Cleveland, KC, and even in Seattle, and that holds offense down. So, expect the offense to improve and the pitching to look human again. And take 9-6 whenever and however you can get it!

by 2X2L on Apr 17, 2008 1:30 AM EDT up reply actions

As there’s no obvious reason for me to be mentioning Cleveland, and because everyone in timezones east of year has already gone away for the night, I’ll just turn out the light and shut down now. Goodnight, Kansas City.
