18.69
It's not like having Hideo Nomo around ever made sense, but it certainly doesn't now. Pointless in the beginning, pointless a week ago, pointless now.
Listen, man. We're gonna let Jose Guillen slide for now. Heck, your Tomko thing even looks sorta OK. But Nomo, seriously, what the hell?
There are no less than two hundred generic minor league pitchers that could perform much better than this, probably even fifty or so that could even give you a sub 8.00 ERA or thereabouts.
18.69. His ERA is a year, and not even an all too distant one. If Nomo is still around in two days, I'm docking Dayton Moore a Schrute Buck.
End the agony.

Nomo threw 16 pitches tonight and I was impressed by one of them - a swingthrough that he got from Ryan Sweeney on what I thought was a revival of his splitter but Gameday lists as a “changeup”. Everything else looked completely float-tastic. Of course he was unlucky, first with Brown’s unplayed popup and then with Sweeney’s deflected groundball. But I don’t think he needs bad luck to have a poor outing - he can do it on his merit as well.

well, nobody can say Nomo's failure wasn't predictable
This space intentionally left blank.

He's inherited
the Jason Standridge batting practice pitcher role in our bullpen. This role has formerly been reserved for such wonders of talent as Todd Wellemeyer (surprisingly decent now), Scott Dohmann, etc. Anyway, he does not belong on this team and is taking up space for people that do. I’m hoping that Hochevar gets called up to pitch Sunday’s game and Nomo is sent packing.

I suspect that is exactly what will happen
It certainly should, anyway.

I am convinced
Nomo has incriminating photos of Dayton Moore. I cannot explain his presence on the roster. He really shouldn’t have made the first round of cuts in spring training.

Nomo having a roster spot makes me sad.
That is all.

We Used To
Have a toast artist down in Homer. He used a propane torch to burn images in white bread; surprisingly coherent images resulted. I haven’t heard of him lately.
