Frank Thomas to KC?
I think he would be a welcome addition. That way he could dh and Butler could play 1st. Gload goes back to the bench were he belongs. He could be an effective pinch hitter. I wonder what he would be looking for $ wise. We could definitely give him the pt. What do you people think? Worth the minimal risk or waste of time/$ ? Trade rumors the Mariners as maybe being interested as well. Blah Blah

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
We already have a potential head case (Gullien) and don’t need another. Especially one who is old and slumping, read losing it.

If they didn't sign Sweeney
Why would they sign Thomas?

No way.
Thomas is a clubhouse cancer. Selfish. Not a good influence for our young guys. I’d lose a lot of respect for Moore if we signed Thomas. I wouldn’t even want him at AAA. – TL

Rather have Bonds than Thomas
But either would be nice i guess

How much does Thomas have left at this point in his career?
It sure doesn’t look like much. At his age, it really looks like his skills are deteriorating quickly.
I probably disagree with you.

The Jays DID give up on him based on 60 PAs.
It seems like he’d be worth taking a flyer on, but we’re not exactly the right team to be looking.

i'd rather have him than gload, that's for sure
i would have no problem with Butler playing 1B fulltime and Thomas DH’ing

It would probably take giving up decent talent to get him
What’s the point? If we’re going to pick up a bat, I’d rather it be someone young with the potential to get better and the potential to be around when we’re competing. Thomas is a free agent after next season.
I also don’t get why the Jays are giving up on him after 60 ABs. The guy got MVP votes last year!

he was released
pretty sure we can just pick him up on waivers, rather than give up anything (unless you meant “give up playing time to”

Wow
Shocking. I thought he was just benched. Hmm, maybe a decent pickup, but I don’t see it happening.

what's amazing is that he's hitting .167
and still has an OPS about as good as Gload’s. All he has to do is raise his batting average like 60 – 70 points and he’d be a huge addition. He’d probably lead the team in HR’s, too.
The other thing is that I think Toronto’s on the hook for the whole contract.

If We Had
Dead wood like Jason Smith taking up space on the 25-man, I’d say do it. Who would we send down to make way for him? A pitcher?

Find a way to trade German
I like Esty, but he doesn’t really seem to have a role on this team.

Toronto looks like a dysfunctional organization to me
how many similar instances like this one have played out up there in the last few years?

yea
But they do have a bullet dodging GM. That counts for SOMETHING.

I have to think
The JP administration is coming to a close. He’s been a modest failure, but has failed in an annoying, abrasive manner.

Can Butler play first full time??
I don’t think so which kind of makes it impossible to pick up a DH.

This is the key question - Butler at 1B all the time makes me nervous
The other aspect of having 2 players on the roster who are real DHs was the reason Sweeney was cut loose. Better to pass on the Big Hurt. Everyone has to retire some day.

I Heard On
The radio today that he’d like to end his career with a contender. Conversely, I also heard that he would not be able to pick and choose where he plays. Obviously, opinions differ or these people know nothing and are simply filling air time.

Please NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One headcase in Guillen is enough. His bat is unquestioned. But, we have Butler at DH/1B… why trade for a bat… he has nothing else…. if we are going to do that then Bonds and Sosa are still out there. I hope we don’t.

Here's the thing,
don’t you think we’ll avoid most of the ‘guy with drug record’ negativity? if theres anywhere that wouldn’t take an undue amount of heat for Bonds, it’s here. small market team, had the pitching, needed a bat. i mean, c’mon, we’re kansas city… why the f not?

Either way,
I hope that if he wants to play someone gives him a shot. I’m not buying that whole “Thomas disagreed with Kenny Williams, so he must be a jerk” argument. Plus, the Blue Jays benched him based on 60 PAs. Flat out benched. Who, let me ask, on the Blue Jays bench, is going to outperform the Big Hurt’s production last year?
